8"-9" lift & over guys

I have a 2003 F-150 4x4 with a 5" RCD lift on it. I really want to go with a 3" body lift, 37" tires and 4.88 gears, but I am on the fence. Right now the truck fits in the garage, and the car wash. It is my daily driver, and I put 75 miles per day on it. Do you guys think it is worth the added cost to go higher, or should I just keep it as it is. I don't off road the truck at all. The reason I am trying to figure this all out is I still have 33" tires and 3.55 gears. I plan to either upgrade to 35" tires with 4.56 gears or 37" tires with 4.88 gears with a body lift. What kind of mpgs can I expect from either the 35s or 37s? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i put about 11" of lift on mine with 38's and i love the way it looks and drives. it was my daily driver for a while but i went ahead and bought a small car to drive back and forth to work. i was spending about 400 dollars a month on gas. plus putting all those miles on tires that are about 400 dollars a piece. now i just drive it when i need to haul something or on the weekends. if you are worried about gas mileage i would not go any bigger. if you want a bad a** truck then go for it!

^^^^^^^x2 if you want the badass look, I say go for it. One thing I have learn is a lot of people do one thing, then a week later wish would of gone bigger. I say think it through, then if its something you want to do, do it. I promise you, you want have any regrets once its done, imo the only thing is your gonna be spending more on gas.

its all up to you if its worth it. but if you want a big truck and tires youre going to have to pay the penalty of lower mpg and the added cost. but you should get around 12mpg with either setup you want. i get 13mpg mixed driving with my setup.

Do it. My truck is my DD and I put a bunch of miles on it regularly. I can't fit in the parking garages anywhere here in Orlando, and I've adjusted quite well to it.

I have always wanted to go BIG with this truck ever since I bought it new in 2003. The bigger the better. Gas prices are really hindering my progress and my decision though. It is now up to $2.85/gallon here near Chicago, IL. I really don't want to buy a car just to get better milage. My truck is paid off and it would defeat the purpose of building the truck if I just let it sit at home all the time. If milage won't be much different between 35" tires w/4.56 gears and 37" tires with 4.88 gears, then I will probably do it. Thanks again for the advice guys. Nice trucks by the way!!

Yeah, honestly since you are gonna regear, you won't be spending that much more on gas. Do it!

Let me ask you guys another question. Right now I have a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler dumped before the rear axle. That is it. If I get say Dynatech long tube headers w/the high flow cats, an AEM Brute Force cold air kit, and an edge programmer, would my gas milage go up at least 1-2 MPG? These are all mods that I have been considering to boost HP and MPGs.

its possible to get alittle better out of that.

I drive my truck ever day, and for alittle while the o2 sensors have been going out and its been running rich. 5 MPG on the highway 8 through the city. Dont want to change the sensors since im pulling the motor soon anyway.

i say 37's or 36's and 4.88's will do you just fine

I say do it, and don't look back. I am running 38's with 4.56 gears and get 12.5 mpg in the city and 14 on the highway. I love the look and the way it drives. Yes, it hurts when I fill it up (it is a DD too, but you pay to play), and I can not go into any more fast food drive thrus, some ATM machines, etc... But you learn where you can and can't go. And you adjust your style accordingly. IMO it was the best mod I have done to my truck. I love the fact that I can JUST ABOUT look eye to eye with a Big Rig driver. LOL

It depends on the the drive thru. If it has a tight turn with curbs or wall etc... forget about it. But if it wide open I will drive thru those. ATMs I have to lean almost half way out of the truck to get my money, cause they always put the money dispenser at the lowest point the most possibly can.

Yeah I can navigate through any drive through, ATMs are a royal pain though. It's the parking garages that kill me. I can make it on the first floor, anything else there's no way. Also, I can back this fat bitch into a compact parking spot like it's my job.
