First make sure the nut is not crossthreading. You should be able to thread the nut on by hand most of the way. Are the treads messed up and/or do they go far enough up the shaft to allow the nut to completely tighten ? Clean any grease off the male and female. Take a brass hammer and tap down on the ball while tightening. Try using an impact gun on the nut instead of a wrench or socket. Are you sure its the correct ball joint? Some have different size shafts for different makes of cars, is the shaft fitting snug when pressed into the female control arm? May be a defective ball joint, compare it with the one you removed, check thread depth, length, diameter of the taper etc. Good luck

Looks like your UCA will not go down any farther. In order to tighten that ball joint it is having to lift the lower assembly and its takes too much to do that so the ball joint just spins. I think what you need to do is use your jack to help lift your lower assembly. If that does not work can you put the tire back on, let the truck down then tighten the nut on the ball joint. By doing this you should shift the upper assembly (top of the spindle) closer to the UCA and it will not have to come down so far.

First want to thank everybody that has helped me out with the whole ordeal!! Well got it finally done and installed!!! seems though the front sits higher now then the rear so first question is will it settle after a while?? 2nd question so i took it out for a lil test drive and now i'm having steering problems. first it is easy to turn left really really easy almost to easy but its hard to turn to the right and then when driving at minimal speeds like 20 mph it pulls hard to the left. since it is going in for realignment on monday (not getting driven all weekend, just the 30 mile trip down to the auto place) will the realignment fix this problem? and should i tell the mechanic about all of this and maybe have him take it out for a short drive to see what he thinks?

Your alignment should help the pulling to the left and if it doesn you may want to check your tie rods. Have the shop check all that out when you take it in
