Poor man's leveling kit
Poor man's leveling kit
So we had about 12 bags of masonry cement that got rained on, and froze up.
they were going to chunk them, and i hated the stance on my truck. so i threw about 9 bags back in the bed of my truck, and put a parking block back there. i don't use the bed hardly ever, so i figured it was worth it.
i know manual rides around with about 400lbs in the bed during winter for traction, as many others do. id say i have roughly ~700lbs in the bed, each bag is 70lbs and the parking block is about 100-110. the truck is a tad slower, not very noticeable. traction is much much much better and taking corners and railroad tracks doesnt bump so hard anymore. it steers a little stiffer but nothing too terribly noticeable.
heres a picture of the truck, ill get a better one soon. before and after

its about an inch higher in that picture. the parking block brought it down another .8 or so inches, so its almost level.
so my question is, do i have anything to worry about as far as the suspension goes? i have a good ways to the bump stops, i know im good there. anything?

yeah, i used to load a couple cinder blocks and bricks in the bed for traction. eventually i decided that i need every mpg i can get, plus i hated how low the truck was. i picked up a daystar 1.5" coil spring spacer for $40 and couldnt be happier. well, i could if i could get a lift kit for free but thats not gonna happen. anyways, installed the spacer myself and got charged $55 for the alignment. but i needed the alignment anyways cus i messed it up when i went through a ditch while making a u-ey.
but im not too sure about the weight messing up the suspension. i couldnt afford ANY worse gas mileage and im sure i was burning more gas. if you like it though, then go for it.

lmao ya thats oneway to do it i guess but wouldnt it be cheaper to get the leveling kit verus paying for the extra gas due to the added weight, and id be concerned how long the suspension will last with the prolonged added stresses. You got to do what you got to do sometimes i guess
^ x3..
anywho.. wouldn't deflating the tires a little give you a bit more traction as well? unless, your driving in snow, I can hardly see the benefit..
and what's with the goofy looking kid standing next to your truck? aren't those womens pants?

In a way, its not a poor mans leveling kit. You'll be paying the difference with fuel mileage. And if they were still up in the upper $3 lower $4 dollar range, you might feel it over time.
haha no im not related to shifty.
im not doing it for traction, im doing it for the level look. traction is just a plus
gas mileage might not suffer too bad, im not all that worried about it though, when it gets higher i just take all the weight out

Thats one way to do it. I was scared you tried using hockey pucks or something like that instead of a real leveling kit. Your idea is a little safer than that though.
