3" level kit question
Hurray for 3" level kit owners! I've finally found other people who have 'em! Sorry, I'm very ecstatic about this - I thought I was the only one with a 3" from fat bob's...
To the OP, I personally would do the 35x12.50R18's if I had the stock 18" rims. The gas mileage drop shouldn't be much, most people seem to report about 1 - 2.5mpg drop with 35x1250's on stockers...
But, I have the stock 20's - it just came that way from the dealer, I would never just buy 20's for my truck, though there's nothing wrong with them, just IMHO smaller rims, like 17 or 18's are better for offroad usage (which is what I like to do
), since you get more "padding" in between you and the road.... Im probably gonna be buying a set of 285/65/R20's, which is about 34.5"X11.5".

I must say it was the worst decision I made on my pickup. I posted the same kind of threads asking everyone's opinion and everyone said not to go that route. I went ahead and did the 3", thought I had it aligned, and after 4 months took it to my good friend who works for a Ford Dealership. I finally took it to him because it was handling like crap and he said there was no way to truly align because there as so much pressure pushing down. He told me with the angles of everything that I'd be replacing CV's and ball joints every year. IMO it's a cheap way to put 35's on. I'm not trying to step on any toes and to those that like the 3" well

I finally just bought a rancho lift and did it the right way. I will agree with most people on here and say - it is too much.
you guys may not have problems right yet but bring your truck to a shop or if you know how to do it yourself, take the front end apart and check your ball joints ill put my money on that after 5-6 months one or a couple of them will be shot.
yeah... I don't doubt it. I use my 4wd fairly often. And typically its when I really need it, like stuck or somthing. And I usually don't get stuck unless Im bottomed out or hung up (which is why I want a lift) granted when I bottomed out, it was on the rear diff. I've never touched my underbelly. I got hung up on my running board. So I really just want height, but need tire clearance... hence I was looking at the BL or if I could afford it Rancho 4".... I just don't think that I want a full 6"... Don't get me wrong. I love lifted trucks, but I want 3" - 4", which is what I've always wanted... plus I put my truck on blocks last week that measured ~ 8" (6" lift + 2ish" for 35's) and I was smilin getting in to it, lol
it looked sweet, but I like to be understated - despite my redneckish side which influenced me to buy an 8ft antenna
and I like the look of the 4".... mostly I like to drive on trails (like powerlines) and the beach and the occasional snow here in Raleigh
Oh and to the OP... I think your thread has now officially been hijacked, lol... sorry

no.. I was looking into putting 4" blocks on the back.... I never did. I just have the 3" level kit. My front end sits 1 1/4" higher than the back. Its not that noticeable, but I want to do something about it.
Did you buy the a level kit yet?

yea I bought the three but after numorous ppl saying the three is bad for the cvc's and ball joint, i returned it and got the 2.5 which I also measured and the three would put me about a half of an inch higher in the front, and I want it to be level. But Im no mechanic so Im taking their word on it, and you said you haven't had any trouble out of your 3" but Im wanting to put 35's on there so I cant afford to blow a ball joint. Your truck would look really bad with some 35/12.50/18's : ) JMOP
Thanks dude! I love the kit, but I would say you did the right thing by returning the 3" and getting the 2.5"... if I had the 2.5" I would have no hesitation about taking my truck offroad more... but no, I haven't had any problems with mine. I put it on when I had about 3K miles on the truck, and now I have ~18K miles. I am actually thinking of switching it out for the bilstein 1500 adjustable shock and setting them at 2" and replacing my rear shocks with the 1500s as well (just not the adjustable obviously) I may actually put a 3" block in the back too, just to get the factory rake back, but Im not sure about that.
I really wanted to put 35X1250 Mickey Thompson ATZs on my truck, but I don't think they'll fit with my stock 20's... which really stinks, so I was thinkin about buying Mickey Thompson Classic II rims and putting 33's on, but Im not sure if I want so much of that
"off road look" or the "nice truck" look.... But either way I want practicality, Im no pavement pounder... check this out:

That was like a week after I had my 3" LK put on... but ya, with the rims and tires, I'm also thinking about buying some FX4 18's and putting 35X1250s on there, since I know they will fit with those rims.

People with 3" leveling kits ever look at your ball joint angles c/v angles? I looked at a guys and opted to go with the Bilstein 5100 wich give you 2" lift with zero stress on any parts...
Nice picture. but I was wanting to go with the stock king ranch 20's and put 33's on there but just too expensive plus Id be stuck with my stock KR 18's. But yea I'll probably put a 3 inch suspension on my truck in the next six months or so. But if you decide to go that route with the tires Be sure to Post Pics
