Thinking about lifting my King Ranch...
I have an 03 Roadstar that is loaded with chrome goodies and a ton of aftermarket goodies. Why is this important? Because I have a two year old daughter, and am thinking that I need to live a little while longer. With that being said, I think I can get about 8k for it, maybe more. If I have an 8k budget, can I lift my 07 KR, and get a buttload of goodies? Rims, tires, lift, shocks, you know, the works with labor included. I may have my brother in law help me do it, and save on all of the labor costs. He would enjoy it. We would probably do it at his shop on a Saturday. It it possible to do this all in one day? If I am gonna do this, and I have 8k to spend, what rims, and what lift.
I cannot believe I am thinking of selling my baby, but I wanna see my other baby grow up. She might as well travel in style.
Gas mileage? I have not paid a whole lot of attention to the suspension threads. Mostly because I NEVER thought I would lift my KR. I actually gave a guy crap for lifting his...now I wanna do it, due to every KR in Dallas looking like mine.
Thanks for the input.

Yeah, as long as you shop wisely.....you could accomplish your goal, change your gear ratio, and maybe even have some money left over. There's a thread about total cost somewhere down the list. That should give you an idea of how much everyone has in their setup.
The best thing you can do is NOT go to a retail 4x4 shop. There is a HUGE mark up. And they usually only sell what they can make the most money on......which means that a lot of their stuff is junk.
Pick out what you want. Order it off the internet. And try to install everything yourself.....except for the gears.

what size lift?
a 6" you can easily do in 8K. i think with a 8" you probly could get a rize and be in budget.
i paid 3550 for BDS lift, wheels, tires, that includes installation. i only have 17's tho and 6".
i think most people pay about 3200-3500 installed for a rize.
rims/tires are probly about another 3200 for 37's on 20's.
then regear to 4.88's is about 1500.
total= that would put your budget about your limit.
do you already have a programmer? thats the only other thing i would suggest and its about $400.

I really don't want it too tall. I still need to park my truck in the airport garage. Even though I dig the Monster truck look, I think the six inch might be my best bet. Already have a programer X3.
Woke up this morning, and was still excited about lifting. Now, I just need to wash my bike and put it up for sale on Cycletrader

Shines, King Ranches can look outstanding when they are lifted with "goodies" in good taste. That said what color is your truck? Arent most KR's two tone? Knowing this i think we could better help you pick stuff out or make suggestions. If you guys are going to do the installs then a ton of money can be saved.
A 4" lift is going to be just like a leveling kit, just about the same height wise. Maybe a tid bit taller.
Id recommend a 6" lift for you. There are threads where people have found procomp stage 1's for like 1600 bucks, Im not sure what fabtech runs. Did you want to upgrade the coilovers since you want good shocks? You might also do a search on procomp vs. fabtech to see which you prefer.
Fabtech or procomp?
What style of wheel do you prefer?
What size wheel? 18x9, 20x9, 20x10 (recommend), 22x11
Coilovers or spacers?
Tires AT's or MT's? Id recommend the toyo MT's, aggresive looking but ive got almost 15k on mine and they show almost no wear.
What kind of goodies are we talking about? paint to match parts like door handles and fender flares? or chrome???

FX4life,
From looking at the LIFTED thread, I think I wanna go with the 6" Fabtech. It comes in blue, and I do not like the color. Does it come in black, or do need to powdercoat it black?
My truck is Copper with the Arizona beige trim. I (think) I want chrome 20's with Toyo's or BFG's in a 35".
I am not sure as to what coilovers are, is a spacer the AS level? I want a great ride, so would the Bilsteins be a good choice? Also, when adding a lift, do I need longer brake lines? I guess what I need to know, is what else do I need other than the lift kit, tires and rims? I dont wanna do it half ***, then again, I don't wanna second mortgage the house.

I'm not as knowledgeable about the newer trucks as I am the older ones, but if I were you, I'd look at a 6" Fabtech, 35" Toyos, and an 18x10 wheel. 20's on 35's is too much wheel and not enough tire imo. If you shop around + have your buddy do the install for you, you can get everything done for quite cheap (I've spent a total of probably $2500 on the truck in my sig). If you still have cash and want to do more for the truck, I'd look into gears + exhaust and then you'd have a pretty sick truck.
edit: what would be real cool is if you painted whatever wheels you got to match the copper color of the truck. There's a guy either here or on FordTruckWorld that did this same thing to his King Ranch (I think it's lifted 6" on Toyos and 20" Rockstars), and it actually looks pretty good. That's probably the only color I'd color match to.

07FX4silver is right the fabtech comes black.
Coilovers replace the factory front coilovers, but can be rather expensive depending on brand. I think fabtech coils can be had for something like 950? or fabtech may offer a kit with them already. if you where not interested in coilovers then the bilsteins are an excellent choice. I currently have them with zero complaints. You might go with the 5100's up front (not sure if they will work with the fabtech lift) and 5150's or 5125's in the rear. I also dont beleive you will need longer brake lines with just a 6", nor would you need driveline work. At best you would want to regear for the 35's (4.56's) at sometime. You could also get the fabtech dual steering stabilizers
this guy here lifted his KR with a fabtech, not sure if youv seen it or not.

Here is another site that has a lifted KR, the "package" they offer is cheesy, but youll get the ideas of two tone fender flares and it also has a fabtech lift.

Shines you can definately lift up your KR for well under $8k... heck, I did mine for about $6500..
I would go with ProComp 6" stage 1 for the lift from ebay, 35x12.5r18 Toyo MTs, 18" ProComp 6005s wheels, Yukon 4.56 gears, Roush Off-Road exhaust, AF1 3.0" CAI, Chrome OEM tubular sidestep, Roush chrome grille from ebay, VMP X3 tune, Ford oval emblem overlays (black/chrome) from patriotdecals.com!
here's the breakdown on the price..
ProComp 6" = $1100
35" Toyo MT = $1200
18" Procomp 6005s = $750
Yukon 4.56 = $1400 (labor included, but about $700 cheaper if your bro can do it)
Roush exhaust = $450
3.0" AF1 cai = $400
OEM chrome sidestep = $300
Roush grille = $80
VMP tune = $60
Oval emblem overlays = $30
TOTAL = ~ $5770
so yea, if you have the spare cash, I'd definately recommend this setup, you really can't beat the price, and I'm sure it will look sweet!
