quick question

Eventually, i'm going to want to a 6" suspension lift, and i would like to know if it is necessary to put on a leveling kit before i get the lift kit? Even if you didn't get a leveling kit and then you got the lift kit would the lift kit level itself out? I want my truck to sit level after i get the lift kit installed by the way.

don't waste the money on the leveling kit. the lift kit, 9/10 times will level it for you

You could put on a leveling kit to raise the truck up some while you saved or waited for a lift. With a lift you dont have to leave the leveling kit on, you will however need an aal or bigger blocks in the rear once you get your lift to make it sit level. There are some ppl who leave the leveling kits on even after they lift their trucks, but i dont think its recommended. Im going to chunk my leveling kit after I get my lift, and I already have a skyjacker 1.5" aal so hopefully that will make the fabtech 6" level out w/out any rake.

Most of the lifts tell you a leveling kit used with them will void your lift warranty. And most kits leave you close to level.

Most of the brand name kits are pretty similar. Fabtech and Rize are pretty popular on this forum, and you'll get lots of other chime ins. I just did a SkyJacker.

Generally, you get what you pay for and they don't compare directly... for instance, the SkyJacker 6" has 4" rear springs in the kit. A lot of kits have lift blocks instead of springs. I prefer to use minimal blocks (the factory 2" blocks are reused with the SkyJacker springs) so I didn't even look at kits without springs.

Your use also makes kit selection more important - if you plan on blasting across the desert prerunner style, look for a kit designed to take that heavy use (abuse?). If all you want is "the look", kit selection doesn't require a lot of concern about ability to withstand a beating.

Make sense?

Yeah, I understand, thanks for the help. I'm going for looks and little performance. For instance, I may play around offroad a little, but not just all the time. I know Fabtech make a 6" kits have reasonable prices. Such as $1600, but the price will vary greatly with the type of shocks you get. If I'm going to be offroad a little would you recommend paying a lot for shocks?

Better shocks improve the ride all the time. I personally think that racing coilovers like Fox or Kings would be way overkill for most people - but spending more for better shocks is generally a good bet - look for progressive/speed sensitive valving - they will control bumps better as their valving adjusts to the speed they are trying to move.

Fabtech 6" Suspesion Kits

6" Performance System:
With Performance Shocks: $1600
With Dirt Logic Shocks: $2000

6" Performance Coilover System:
With Performance Shocks: $2200
With Dirt Logic Shocks: $2650

Which kit do you think I should go with if I will be offroading some, but not a lot?

I suspect some of the guys with the FabTech kits will chime in, but with minimal off road, I'd probably step up to the $2000 kit. I've never install or driven a FabTech F150 kit, so I'd be lying if I said I could do anything better than guess what's what. A friend that has one said he thought the shocks were too soft, but I don't know which shocks he had.

Yeah, I'm thinking the 6" Performance System w/ the Dirt Logic Shocks that costs $2000. I think for the amount of offroading that I'll be doing, it would be unreasonable to go over $2000.
