Help decide on a 2.5 or 3" lift ???

Okay I was going to get the Fabtech 6" but think that is a little to much for me right now as I have a 06 R6 that I might want to load in the back of the truck. SO I was thinking of getting some kind of lift in the 3" range and from what I read maybe a add a leaf. Then I was thinking either the 20" KMC rockstars or Diamo 17K both rims in the black, what size tire would fit, I was thinking in the 33's range to start out. The truck is a 2007 SCrew, white sand stone metallic lariat 4x4. Anyone have any opinions on what cost on some of that will be or the best place to order this stuff from. Any suggestions will be helpful, as I am ready to get this done ASAP. I have searched a lot on this board already but really need some help on what to do for sure.

Thanks
J

I'd suggest the 2.5 inch Autospring leveling kit.

How much gain with say a 33/12.5 nitto mud tire, or do you have another suggestion that will work with the above mentioned rims ???

I just want to later put on a 6" Fabtech.

My options are the following

1 get a 6" lift, have the 20" from the factory and getting a mud tire to put on the stock rims.

2 get a 2.5 level kit or something in that area, and put rims and tires on.

Either one will put me in the 3K range installed I would guess.

Thanks
J

Since you want to install a 6 inch lift later, this is what I would do personally. I'd install the 2.5 inch Autospring kit and a set of 35x12.50 tires on the OEM wheels. Then when I installed the 6 inch lift later, I'd buy a set of wider aftermarket wheels.

But that is what I was thinking instead of getting the 2.5 inch go ahead and get the 6" fabtech and get a 35 tire with the stock rims, then essentially all I will need then would be the aftermarket rims.

Or I can get a 6" fabtech and install it myself and get the rims and tires at the same time. Just trying to save a little money here, how hard would it be to install. I saw the 6" on 4wheelparts.com for about $979 for the basic kit. I will be driving more on the road than offroad but want a bad a$$ looking truck. What is a good looking tire that is agressive and has ***** on the outside that is fairly inexpensive and will last a little while that doesn't cost a fortune. ???

Ahh, the perfect tire. Sorry, but it doesn't exist. Your best bet would be a quality all terrian or mud terrian tire. Every tire has it's advantages and drawbacks. Usually, you get what you pay for. First decide on whether you want/need a mud tire or an all terrian and go from there.

The KMC rockstars are great looking rims, I looked into getting them. The only problem is that they only offer the 8.5" width for the 6 on 135 pattern. That may not be enough or 33's and even worse with 35's. I know a lot of people run wide tires on stock size rims, but I would think the tires would wear sooner. Just a thought, I'm no tire expert.

I think that in the end it will be the 2.5 inch with a AAL, and the diamo 17K 20's, then in the next 6-12months go with the 6" fabtech or larger. Or I will grow a pair and say screw it all and install the 6" on my own and get all that I want.

I bought 20x9 moto metal chrome 951's with the 30mm offset and 305/50/20 nitto rubber for $2006.00 and a NCD Customs 2.5" leveling kit for $90.00, way under 3 grand.

I don't mean to offend anybody, but drop down bracketry is kind of lame. Long arms and heim joints are the way to go for big travel.

well in the end I think the rims and little lift is better all around than a lift with the stock 20's and tires, it comes down to looks a the moment. I will give it no more than 6 months and it will have a 6-8inch lift to compliment the rims, and a 35 tire at that time. I have a lot of plans to make this a different truck, as before I had this I had a CTS-V, with Iforge rims and 100shot. I have had nothing but sport cars and now the truck, time to have some 4x4 fun and make the most of it for the next couple years ......
