Height conscious lift

I’m looking into lifts, im wandering if anyone knows what a good suspension lift and tire combo is for a truck that still needs to fit under short overhangs. Like most apartment complexes ect…

I have a 06 STX, supercab, 4.6, 4X4.

I live in Phoenix, AZ and when I first got the truck I noticed how high it already was stock when I went to the Phoenix Airport to pick someone up. I do that a lot as my girl is constantly flying in to see me. I don’t remember how low the overhang on that particular parking garage but im just wandering at what height do you start having problems with that kind of stuff.

Anyone that’s been to that parking garage will know what im talking about. It’d be nice to get some locals opinions if there are any out their…

well what u need to do is get some measurements of how much room u have left now with the truck under the over hang. and u will know how much higher u can go.

well this is how u figure it, for every 2" u go up in tire size, it makes the truck 1" higher. so if u go from a 31" tire to a 35 u will gain 2" if u go to a 37" tire from a 31 u gain 3"

Ok, i measured my truck and it is 74" tall at stock ride hight. I currently have the stock STX 17" rims, and I plan to buy some 18" FX4 or Lariate rims. (if anyone wants to get rid of a set in good condition shoot me an email). Currently I have P255/70R17 tires.

How much taller would a Rancho 4" suspension lift and 35x12.5x18 tires make it? Also if anyone knows how to convert 35x12.5x18 to Pxxx/xxRxx i would really appreciate the conversion.

Will i run into bolt pattern problems with this swap?

This setup should be roughly 6" taller, and there are no bolt pattern problems with the FX4 wheels.

Do you think that will increase my off-road capabilities by a good bit over stock?

I guess it was a bit of a dumb question, I guess im thinking that there isn’t really much difference in cost when going with a 6" lift. The only thing is that the bulged tire look isn’t my style. And it seems like if you go with a 6" you have to get the bigger tires in order for it to look right. Plus I’d have to buy aftermarket rims and the tires are probably more expensive too.

I guess what it comes down to is how well I would be able to keep up on the trails with a caravan that has 6” lifts and wider tires? What do you think???

Do you know by any chance if you can still use the factory skid plates on the rancho lift?

well the factory skid plates attach to the factory crossmember so any lift u get the factory skids go in the crap pile. what u should do is check to see witch lift will let u use the factory rims if that is one of your concerns. u seem like u are not to sure what u really want.

I know the factory wheels will work with the Rancho 4” because there is a member here that has that set up.

As far as what I want, it’s conflicting like most of my decisions on this truck.

I want to be able to fit under low overhangs but at the same time I don’t want to get out on some trails and get totally left behind. Now I know I can’t expect to be able to do what you can do in your truck with my measly 4” lift. I don’t do crazy off-roading, I just wander what the performance gap is, like what can your truck do that mine couldn’t? If it’s only extreme stuff that im never faced with I wont worry about it. But if it is stuff that I may very well run into than I have some concerns.

with a 4" lift and some 35's u should be able to keep up with almost anyone on the trail, sometimes alot of lift is just more for the look then anything else i think u are worrying to much if u want lift but not too high get the rancho 4" and some 35's and u will be good to go.
