Explorer lowered/leveled question...

I'm thinking about surprising the wife with a 06 Explorer limited for christmas and I want to have it lowered in the rear so that it sits level. I don't want anything radical, just nice leveled look.

I will put new rims/tires on it as well...not sure what size, maybe 20s. I want a nice performance tire with a decent amount of sidewall, but not too much.

Anyway, I'm not use to lowering a truck/suv so what do you guys recommend? Anyone have pics?

Thanks.

I'm not sure about Explorers, but I'm sure some 20's would look good on the mid size SUV.

FRPP (Ford Racing Power Parts) makes a 2"drop springs kit for 02' and up explorers, mountaineers. The front suspension is very similar to our 150's in that they use a coilover setup with one large bolt on the bottom and three studs on the top plate that go thru spring bucket and has 3 nuts to hold it. The rear I.S. uses the same setup. To install, just pull the coilover assy's, replace the factory springs with the shorter ones, then reinstall the coilovers. Make sure you post before and after pics when your done.

Thanks, but I dont really want to lower the front..just the rear. Is there a kit (or springs) to lower just the rear?

Wandell...I agree, I think 20s would look good.

LOWERING KIT FOR 2WD AND 4WD
2002-05 EXPLORER
M-3000-F
• Fits 2002-05 2WD and 4WD
• 4 door
• Lowers 1.6" front and rear
• Includes front and rear springs
• Lowers center of gravity, improves handling
• Increased spring rates for firmer than stock ride
Thats the only kit I know of, and you could just install the back set of springs if that's all you want

After looking at some lowered and non lowered Xs...I'm thinking that 2/3 might be what I'm looking for.

having owned 2 explorers-'02 and now '06 I can tell you the lowering kits out there for 02-05 will not fit the 06. I have contacted belltech, ground force, and eibach and the only one that has anything in the works is eibach which will be around an inch all around. They said this will be in early 07 sometime when it is released. Hope this helps.
