Want to lift it, but what else should I know

I recently purchased a 2004 F-150 4x4, and what else should I do but lift it and buy some tires. I think I want to go around six inches, and I like the price of the Pro Comp, but am not set on anything yet. What I do know is that I would like to install it, but I am curious about how what else needs to be done. The kits say all is included, but I know I will need an alignment done when I get it on, and was wondering what else I might have to look forward to. Anyone with experience in this install, please give me an idea of what I'm getting into. Also, is any kit better, ie easier than any other. Thanks all.

Six inches is a big lift. I'll assume that you want at least 35' tires which are expensive. With tires that big you'll need to consider new gears. I could go on and on.

Once you get started with this project you will find there is no end to the money you can spend. Just with what you said, you can be looking at a $4000 to $5000 project.

I have never had a problem with my ProComp lift. The only problem I had was the alignment was off after I jumped it...but the entire lift is doing great!!!

So +1 for ProComp 6"

I have not yet decided on the tire size I would like yet. I was thinking 33's, but maybe 35's. Originally I had thought I would do a 3 inch lift, with 285/70 17's, but 33 is the max tire size given for the lift and I do not like to just cram the most tire I can fit in the wheel well. I started thinking the 6 inch lift for more clearance. Am I going way overboard, or am I right that 33's would be relatively tight with just 3 inches. Also, are there any front drive shaft issues with a 6 inch lift. Thanks all

On my 98 150 1 have the factory off road package with the 17' wheels i have the stock tire size on there 265/70/17 i belive thier 32.5 inches tall, i think a 33' will fit hieght wise stock but you may rub as for width, so with a 33' 3-4' would be enough i think

Before you plan on buying a lift and just slapping it on, be prepared to spend money on other things to be upgraded. While installing the lift, you may notice parts that are worn out and may need to be replaced. Lifts will typically tend to stress certain parts so don't expect to just put on your lift and be done.

he's got more problems then because I have an extended cab v6 lifted 6" with 35" with stock gearing still and I get about 12 mpg without babying it.
