Question Turning the torsion bars on 02 FX4

How many turns or how much increase in height can you go without affecting the alignment?

Thanks

If you're just going to level it out, you'll be fine cranking the torsion bars. Most people only notice the ride to be a little stiffer. I maxed out my 91 S10 and put an AAL in the rear(before the ZR2) so I could run 31's back in HS. Never had any problems and the truck had the original suspension w/my mods and is still trucking with 200k+. Now at 134K I did have to replace ball joints, you could contribute that to the torsion bars or the mileage, your choice.

I don't beleive you can crank them without affecting your alignment. Of course, the more you crank them, the more it will affect your alignment. For all you know, your alignment could already be off.

more than the alignment.....

not only is the alignment affected but the negative wheel travel is affected.....check the distance, before and after, between the bump stop and the lower control arm. the shorter the distance between the shorter your "flex" will be. my 2 pennies anyway. good luck man.

cranking the torsoin bars effects the alignment big time, i cranked mine and waited 2 weeks to do the alignment and really put some wear on one of my 300$ tires

Torsion Crank

My buddy had his 02 FX4 SCREW cranked 8 turns to level it out (stock rim/tires). The local 4x4 offroad shop told him that it wouldnt effect alignment if you dont crank past 8 turns. Now whether thats true or not I dont know. He has been drving it that way for over 2 years now with no problems.

I just cranked mine today 4 turns each. I measured from the top of my tire to the bottom of the wheel well and had 7" front. My back was 8". So I think I am still about 1" lower in front. I do have 305/70/16 tires on it as well. My left tire would rub lower valance at a right turn. But the right tire clears just fine. Its weird. After the torque the left still rubs but not as much. my socket broke so Im glad I was at a stopping poit that was equal. Now I have to go buy a new one tomarrow.

If I crank the torsion bars close to the max and install an AAL on the rear will it actually 'lift' my 2002 FX4 a couple of inches?

When I still had my 98 I cranked em up to almost max. Drove it for a couple of days then had the alignment checked, everything was within spec but the ride sucked. 4x4 with 305's and you could feel every expansion joint in the road. I ended up backing them off a couple of turns and it was better. Not sure if you can get a full 2" of lift, from what I learned on mine and my brother's truck it really depends on the truck.

Yes, your truck will 'actually' be higher.. How much is dependent on truck, but if your going to crank them don't go past level. Putting an aal on will put you back around stock rake.
