Post 4X4 ORP & 4X4

I have a 98 F150 4X4 but i DO NOT have the ORP. since i got the truck i have put on 265/75/16 tires on, so they are pretty much the same size as the ORP tires right? I know with the ORP you get 17 inch wheels and also get skidplates too, but how come it seems like when im next to a 150 with the ORP it seems higher. Is it just me or is there somethign different with the suspension on the trucks with the ORP compared to a 150 4X4 without the ORP?

Thanks
Brian

I understand the ORP includes the following items:
skidplates
upgraded shocks
4-leaf rear springs instead of 3-leaf (?)
17" wheels

I think they also adjust the front torsion bars to be slightly higher on the ORP so they sit higher overall.

The wheels and the rear springs probably make trucks with the ORP 1-1.5" taller. I am a sucker for that sort of thing and I paid the $750 for an option that was probably worth about $375

Why the hell the ORP doesn't come with Limited Slip and the better Goodyear AT tires is still a complete freakin' mystery to me.

Oh, and back to your question, just buy a set of skidplates, a set of add-a-leafs for the rear and then give your torsion bar adjustment bolts about 4 turns each and you will have an instant ORP for a total of $200 and 4 hours. No kidding! Good luck.

Question

Hi - I have the ORP & according to my door sticker, I have the 3.55 LS rear. Was that ordered as an option? I bought the truck used so I have no clue as to what was standard & what wasn't. I appreciate the help! Bye for now!

Cowlady- Yes, the Off Road Package is an option, its not standard. The 3.55 limited slip I know is not standard and according to Howie it does not come with the ORP. So i am guessing that its another option that whoever bought the truck got.

hope this helps

ORP has 3.55 axle standard - only ratio available on F150 4x4.

LS is still an option, but should be standard on all 4x4's.

Hey Kev and HOSRACN,

How did you guys get a 3.73? In my 1997 and 2001 it was never offered. I am the original owner of both. I have never seen it offered in any Ford literature for the F150 except for the 7700 package. Are you the original owners? Do you have the 7700 pound package? What are your axle codes on the door sticker?

Anyone else have the same issue I have, especially if you went to larger tires?

On the 1999 the 3.73 rear axle was available. On the 2000, you had to order the 7700 GVWR package to get the 3.73. A guy I worked with had an identical truck to mine, except a year older and grey interior, and his came with the 3.73 stock. I was slightly bummed. Mustang GT's only come with 3.27's now... no choices there either.

here is what th ORP came with in 2001:

4X4 Off-Road Equipment Group (n/a with 4.2L engine or Payload Groups #2 and #3 or XL/XLT Sport Groups) includes P265/70R17 OWL all-terrain tires (5), (LT265 opt. recommended for demanding off-road usage) 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with steel spare), ski d plates (fuel tank, transfer case and front-frame crossmember), heavy-duty shock absorbers, Off-Road 4X4 decal, 3.55 rear axle - O O

it was sticker price of 995.00 less discount of 700.00 or only 295.00

worth it with the discount.
