What is best? That is the question.

The real question is....

What do you want? Lifted front, or drop the rear?

Do you use the bed for work? If not you could remove the helper spring, and this may get you even by dropping the rear.

If you want a basic lift, then 2 inch coils up front from www.jcwhitney.com will be the ticket. I think I bought rough country coils for the front, and it came with blocks and U-bolts.

I added 2 inch add a leaf springs to the rear for weight concerns.

What ever end you modify, you will need to play with the alignment a little.

The front will need new cam eccentrics for the camber and caster adjustment. About $65.00 to do it yourself plus alignment.

The rear you will need to check the angle of the driveshaft. You may need to install some wedges to get the correct angle. You may also need new centering pins for the leaf springs if you remove or add.

My story makes it seem like a PITA, but it really is simple.

Main thing is to be safe and have fun.

Mike

leveling my 4x2

I would like to level mine also! I want to bring the front end up. I've heard a lot of different ways to do it, but can't seem to decide which one will work best. This way sounds like a good way to do it but not sure what you mean about the cam eccentrics/$65? Is there something/OEM you can adjust to pick it up a little? I'm not looking to spend a lot of money on this. Thanks for any help!!

The cams/eccentrics he's referring to are the cam bolts and washers for aligning the front end (alignment kit) To raise the front you can use Fabtech lift coils (or other brand) or Daystar coils spring spacers.

I always recommend the lift spindle for the front. It lets you kept the "plush" feel of the stock ride and only needs a >" to 1" lift for the rear to really level out the ride. I put the 3" spindles on my truck and the front site about 3/4" higher in front an I like it. I does look pretty much level though. The cost instaleed would be like $650 but you could probably do it yourself a dn buy the spinde for like $475. You get to re-use teh stock shocks and with lift coils would recuire new shocks.

You should not need an alignment after lowering the rear.

The rivets that hold the factory shackles to the frame are supposed to be a mother to remove.

You may need pinion shims to correct your driveshaft alignment, however.

Here's a thread regarding shackles...

2" lowering shackle install

finished

thanks all for the info, i finished a few hours ago, droped the rear, had to jack the back end up a lot, then used jackstand and the rest cake, dont try this unless you use a good jack , and jack stands, other than that the ride seems a little differnt, ill keep you all posted , but thanks again this site makes a world of differnce

Thanks to MKTRUCK I've checked out the JC Whitney site. They have two inexpensive ways to raise the front. One is the 2-way coil spring adjusters/stabilizers $6.95 each or the ring-type coil spring stabilizers $9.95 each. What do you gentlemen think of these?

$10 to lift the front of your truck? No way you can get that cheap for lift. I am not even going to look at the item you are talking about cuz I am sure they are *****.
