Fabtech 6" lift kit

I just had a Fabtech 6" lift-kit installed on my 2001 screw 4x4. I'm not happy with the engineering and quality of the kit. I've read many post that Fabtech is a good kit, but after having one installed i realize that I just wasted my money. I should of gone with RCD or Rancho. My ride is very rough, also when I make a sharp but slow turn into my drive-way it sounds like my front tires is gonna fall off. I don't have any rubbing problems it seems that the tires don't have enough support when making turns. I called fabtech regarding these issues and they claim the 5th, they tell me that these are one of there best lift-kit. Is there any wheelers with a Fabtech 6" kits installed. Please let me know if you are having any problems.

I'll vote for Rancho. Absolutely no problems with the lift.

What did you notice about the engineering and quality of the kit that makes you not happy with it? Just curious.

I've got a Trailmaster 4in.
Whiplash makes a 10in.

Full Throttle and Whiplash both make a 10 in. but thats really to big to be practical. if i were you id just go with a 5 in . superlift and body lift with a set of 38's or 36's

I was told by Fatech that thier kits are made to drop-in and not change any angles or add stress to any of the suspension componets. I noticed a few things, I'm no expert at suspension but I did notice that the half shafts angle has doubled, they almost sit at 45 degree angle. Next, the sway bar end links look very cheap. My biggest thing complaint is the ride qaulity, I can fell every bump in the road and when I go over the bumps my truck makes a loud thunk. I'm wondering if I chang my shoucks well the ride quality improve. I could go on and on. I'm just pissed because I was expecting alot more, these kits are not cheap. Any advice/help would be great.

lopez,

Did you get the Fabtech shocks with your lift? If so, they are three-way adjustable so you might try tinkering with them. The only part that stinks is that you have to remove the shock to adjust.

Also, are you running 35s on the stock rim or did you get wider rims? It just might be that you are just not used to the give (flex) that larger tires have.

just my $.02

Yea, obviously they lied to you. The fabtech 6in lift only drops the center section 4in. and from there gains the other 2in by basically increasing the angles on the half shafts. I personally feel that RCD has the best lift for 4wd. But, i will hopefully be picking up '02 f150, and im going probably be installing the fabtech 4.5in lift on it. I feel their 2wd lifts have better quality.

when I bought the kit I got Fabtech shocks, I don't think they are adjustable. As far as tires, before i had the truck lifted i was running 305's on 16" wheels(after market). Can upgraded shocks make a chage in drive quality and if so what are good shocks.

what made you pick RCD over other types of lift-kits. Price, engineering or quality.

hey lopez,

The Fabtech shocks should be three way adjustable. Check out their website and click on shocks.

Shocks can make a big difference in ride quality. I am not saying it going to make your truck ride like a caddy but it will make a difference, especailly if you get adjustable ones like the Rancho 9000s.

I made a bunch of calls simply told them what I had, what size tires I wanted to run and asked for opinions. RCD was unanimoulsy recomended by them all. Ive done searches and have not really found one bad thing about RCD.

I know my truck is a truck and I expect it to ride like a truck....well actually more like a sports car . I like the firm ride and feel of the road and have found that with a decent lift my tucks have handled better after the lift, even with larger tires and a higher center of gravity.

RCD is also used by the border patrol from what I hear and who better to Road test stuff than the government, they beat the crap out of everything. If it broke it was taken back and RCD made it better until it stopped breaking.

Only problem I forsee is that I have a supercrew so wont get full 5" and I want to run 35's. RCD says I will have to trim some valence etc but thats no big deal. However I have 33's now that dont rub at all and there was no trimming and I didnt even crank torsion bars. I would think with 4" lift I should be able to easily accomidate the extra 1" in tire height above the axle.

The RCD comes with bilstein shocks which are not one size fits all but are valved for the vehicle they are actually going on so you get a better ride than a simple "one truck shock fits all" style manufacturer.

Now my delimma is just to find a wheel I can get over the top of a set of stillen or baer 6 piston brakes

Zyg,
Try some 18's and get the nitto grappler. They make a AT in 35's They should fit.

As for ride I had a jeep Wrangler. I installed a 2 1/2 inch rancho lift and used the 5000 series shock. The shock was to stiff to the point it would jam your back going over bumps. I would look into adjusting your shock or getting a different brand in a softer shock.
From experience skyjacker makes a decent shock.

Bill
