My 01 used retail price
As many of you all know I traded my 01 4x4 Screw XLT for an 03 Screw 4x4 XLT . Same truck only thing different is the 3.73 gear's and the power seat. My 01 was loaded inc. p/moonroof,but no power seat. Last night (friday) I went out bummin around in my new Screw and went to the dealer where I traded it in . It had 40k mile's,but in primo condition. They have it on the lot for $25,900.00.
I alway's buy from the same dealer and alway's deal in wholesale number's both on my trade and on my new one and they gave me $19,000 on a trade. I paid $29,000 even when I bought it 2 year & 3 mo. ago.
Just to give ya all some insight.

That asking price is prolly about right. I bought my '01 2 months ago. Lariat, moonroof, fiberglass tonneau, power seats, about every option except heated seats and climate control. Like new condition. They were asking 28900 for it. It had 34000 miles. I checked all the usual on-line vehicle pricing sites and my local credit union and that asking price was in line. I think I gave 25200 and got a few extra "accomidations" from the dealer.
Sounds like a fair starting price to ask for your old truck me, even though we are comparing XLT to Lariat.

Fallscrew,
I used to be a buyer for an independent wholesaler dealer, and currently my brother is the new car manager for a small town Ford store. I know where your coming from as far as seeing your trade sitting on a dealers lot for thousands more than they gave you, but remember those are asking prices. Many dealers ask over book for their trade-ins inorder to protect themselves from the buyer who is way upside down in his/her current rig. If buyer with no trade or his own finance walks in and buys, often the price is thousands less. Not defending dealers or pricing strageties here, just giving my opinion from having seen the other side for a few years. I also recently upgraded, swapped my 01 Screw XLT 2WD 5.4 for the same in an 03. Got $19,000 for my 01 and paid $23,500 for my 03. The 01 was mint, with 25k miles. New truck was "A" plan minus the $2,000 rebate. Reason I tell you this is they are advertising my old rig at $20,995. It's all about who and where your market is. In my brothers market, he is forced to sell most units at invoice minus rebates due to competition from big city dealers over an hour away. Anyho, glad to be a part of a site where we can share and learn from each other experiences.

softgenious,
I have no complaints with the tires. I haven't changed them since I got them (only 6,000 miles) and they are set at 36 psi. This is my first Full size truck so I may not be the one to ask about tires. I can tell you this, I put nearly 200,000 miles on a 1991 Explorer and went thru 4 or 5 sets of tires on that truck and couldn't tell a whole lot of difference on any of them. I ran the Firestone stock tires, Goodyear Wranglers, Bridgestone Dueler AT, and finally a set of "no names." Maybe even another set in there somewhere. Got 43,000 to 50,000 miles on each set.
I did have soemone who is more "in the know" about tires tell me that the tires I had were "outstanding."
Good luck!
P.S. My tires are not P265, they are LT265

Now you see why I will never buy from a dealer again. I have lost so much money dealing with dealers.
"Dealer" is the exact word for them. They make you think they are giving you a good deal, and then they get you hooked.
Then you divorce your wife and start dating a hooker with a nicer truck than yours and finally end up in re-hab. I think they call it "TOA" (truck owners annonmous).
Instead of a war on Drug Dealers there should be a war on Car Dealers. THey always get their money.
J/K You dealers out there don't take it personally, everybody has to make living.
