I probably should stay on the sidelines, it's getting a little testy here. I'll throw in my 2 cents about my purchase of a 02 s'crew. When I started looking in late '01, the KR didn't have the 60/40 rear seat available. So I focused on the Lariat. When I ordered my in late Oct. 01, I had heard that the 60/40 was available but I has already made up my mine on getting the Lariat. I love the KR package and think the seats make the package work. However, I prefer the lariats leather. It doesn't make a statement like the KR's and probably won't last as long, but my wife told me that I like it better. I'm 6'4" and can step into my 4X2 without a problem, so I didn't want the running boards. I did go with the heated seats, as I do with all my cars due to Iowa's frosty winters. I'd put them in my '66 Thunderbird, but since it stays indoors in the winter, they really not needed. So, Lariat or King Ranch, either way you really can't lose.

Thanks for all the feedback! I was in a Lexus ES 300 about a year and a half ago. Super car! Paid $495/month. When I moved to Atlanta, the cost of living difference in housing made that car payment hard to handle. Not to mention I left a house sitting empty for 2 months in S. GA while I rented in apt. here. I sold that car for a $500 loss just to get the payment off me.

My work situation is much different now. I work three jobs, yes. One primary, and two part time for extra money. I can trade my 2001 Sport Trac, which I really enjoy, and get into a new KR for about $505 or a new Lariat for $470 or less. The used KR I have mentioned would also be around $470. I probably could afford either, but both stretch the comfort zone. With the present economy, my hesitation tells me to sit tight. Why trade just to trade and not get what you want?? I'm sure I would be happy with a Lariat, but that saddle leather in the KR really lights my candle. The used one I will see Sat has the captain chairs. I had decided on rear bench. Too many darn choices!!

As for mods, my wife and I have spent so much in home improvements here lately, the only mods I have done to my Trac is to add $25 mud flaps. If I keep the ST, I will add an ARE Z series cover to keep things in the back nice and dry (like Hershey the black lab). Otherwise, that money goes to the down pmt on the SCrew.

This forum has been great. Too many positives to mention. RockPick has given me a cut on his book deal , I have an inside on an x-plan, and .... well, like I said, too many to mention.

What's making this decision hard??? Did I mention my wife is out of town until Sunday and hasn't been able to see a single truck I have driven or looked at to help me out!!! No, it's not her decision, but I can hardly see making a $30,000 decision without her! So, f150online has been a stand-in. Even Venturer took his wife!!

Guess I'm getting long winded. (Taking cues from Rock)

I'll post Sat or Sunday and let you know how I like the used KR with the rear captain chairs. If it only had the bench!!!

Since you are asking for advice

here is mine..

if you arent unhappy with your Explorer then dont do anything yet. also, do spend the amount of cash on a KR unless you get exactly what you want, otherwise you will regret it in the long run. been there and done that...
just my .02

Ditto what dboat said. If you love your sport trac, keep it and save toward a '94 KR. Working three jobs can't be fun, and if something happens to one of them you could be in a lot of hurt. My dad told me years ago that being able to make the monthly payments and really affording to make them is two different things. I don't want to come off as too preachie, because we haven't met, just make sure you can swing the payments without streching yourselves too thin. And take your wife with you next time. It will keep her happy.

I'm gonna third Venturer's and dboat's coments about saving your money. The only reason we got my wife the KR is her car was almost at 100K and was starting to do some nickle and dime stuff. Even though it was paid for we decided she needed a more reliable vehicle to run back and forth to work with (a lot of 70Mph expressway driving) MY philosophy is don't worry about missing out on a deal, there will always be another one. If your Sport Track is running good and you don't have a real need for the SuperCrew then don't spread yourself too thin. Ultimately it's your decision, we'd love to see another KR owner around here.

Another philosophy of mine, if you can afford it, get the car you really want. There's no sense in buying a car that you're gonna drive around in going "look at that KR, wish I woulda got one"

Some people are in fact more practical than I am. heh

Talking King Ranch

I was definitely a King Ranch buyer before I went to purchase and found out (in 2001) that you could only buy a 4 capt. chair lay out. adding the rear 60/40 bench was a great move for ford! now you have a choice. I do really love my Lariat 4x4 if you are already spending Lariat money , and the King ranch grabs your interest , the increased cost is not too much more! the resale should be a bit higher just because of the lower production numbers and limited availability. something to consider. either way you will love the SuperCrew

"Will you hurry up and buy the Truck already so you can post a picture". There you have it. If your working three jobs how will you have time to even enjoy the truck? Why are you looking at one of the most expensive F150's there is? Just get an XLT model.
You are driving us crazy! You are driving yourself crazy. Color will have nothing to do with the price. You have kept asking the same question about the price. You will not get it for free my man. My wife had nothing to do with my getting the truck. Keep the truck you have so you dont drive yourself insane. Sounds like the X-files to me.

Madd,

I work out of my truck!!! I'll get to enjoy every mile!

I love that king ranch leather, but can only afford XLT or Lariat. Will more than likely stay put in my ST, it does everything I need it to do. No need to trade cloth for cloth.

I started out my search for a good used SC, somewhere along the way someone mentioned rebates, incentives, x-plan, and low interest rates would allow me to get into a new one almost as cheap as a new one, thus I got sidetracked. Anyway, I haven't ruled out a new one, current incentives expire 9/3, maybe they'll get better. I have most of my homework done at this point. So, I won't post anymore of those annoying questions. Although, check out my latest post. I'm sure you'll enjoy.
