Seat Belt Recall... opinions?
Hi Gang,
Ford has repeatedly sent me notices about the seat belt buckle retention recall, even though one of their mailing showed me how to check for the problem myself. I checked my truck but didn't find anything wrong with the buckle. Has anyone had this problem corrected by the dealer? I'd hate to miss work one day for a problem that may not even exist.
My SCrew was built in February 2001.
Thanks,
Jon

i'm not sure what the letter says that ford sent you. but i know the tester fails alot of buckles that. me just putting the buckle in by hand latches ok every time. its up to you. a day off for this does bit. but if the buckle fail's, that would be worse. good luck.
Crewd,
Just my opinion but, it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to swing by at lunch or something of that nature and have them check it out. Just call ahead and talk to the service manager and let him/her know of your time constraints.
If it's an issue, take the necessary steps to make sure it's fixed. I'd rather take a day of vacation than two weeks in the hospital because I ate the windshield. Also, lots of time, the dealership can do routine and small repairs on the weekends. I'm not sure if this would help your cause but, it's certainly worth looking into.
If it's not an issue. You're no worse off than you were before and you'll have the piece of mind knowing that you'll be restrained if needed.

By following the instructions in the letter I could cause on of mine to fail. The other was ok. I sure would not take a chance. It only took them a few minutes to do the swap.
