Price for new 02 Screw?
Price for new 02 Screw?
Hello,
This is my first post, so bear with me. I'm currently shopping for a 02 XLT Screw w/ 5.4, limited slip, sliding rear window, FX4, and tow package which carries a msrp of around $34,000. My best price so far is $29,0000 including the $1000 rebate and $400 college grad. I think I can do better. What do you think?
Thanks,
Charlie

I just bought my '02 supercrew last week. Same vehicle you described minus the FX4 package. Paid $250 under invoice. I recommend going to Edmunds.com and getting the invoice price for your vehicle as equipped. Go to your dealer armed with this information. Pay no more than $100 over invoice. If they don't give you the price you want, get up and walk out. Believe me, they will follow you. If they don't, go to the next dealer. After you negotiate this price, then tack on your rebates to get your final sales price.
Good luck with your new vehicle purchase!

I bought basically the same thing a few months ago...sticker was $34,500 and I paid $26500 + tax. I was lucky in that I was leasing my 99 and when I turned it in I received an additional $1500 rebate from Ford, but no college rebate. So without that, it would have been $28k, so I would say you are only off by a 1000-1500 for a really good deal.
I just place my order for a '02 Screw 2 weeks ago for $500 under invoice. I had 2 different dealers offer me the same deal but one was willing to give me more for my trade in. I ended up ordering a 5.4L FX4 Lariat, slip diff, moon, towing, CD changer, ... for $37k MSRP, $32.5k invoice, $32k minus the rebates at time of delivery.
One of these dealers was refered to me via Sam's Club. It was the quickest and easiest way of getting to the bottom line that I ever experienced - virtually painless. I called the dealer they recommended and told them what I wanted. An hour or two later, they called me back with the price - $500 under invoice for whatever I wanted to order. However, its all up to the dealer's discretion.
It worked for me. Might be worth a try. Good luck.

I'm here in the Milwaukee area. I got the dealership that I intend to use for service to match the Sam's Club price (invoice - $500) and to give me a better price on my trade-in to boot. The price would have been the same for either a special order or one on the lot.
Madd try carsdirect.com. Here in Southern California I couldn't find a dealer with the same truck willing to match the carsdirect price.
I ended up buying my truck through Carsdirect.

My brother bought his 2000 Mustang GT through carsdirect.com. To sum it up, he just filled out the online part, they called him with the car & delivery date, he charged a $50 credit card deposit and faxed some paperwork, 2 days later a flatbed showed up with his GT, checked over the car, gave the driver a signature and off he drove. He loved the experience and would do it again.
It was awesome. I was working with a dealer and with CarsDirect (CD). CD called me and we went over specifically what I was looking for. it took them three days to find it and when they did I took the e-mail to the dealer with the exact price that CarsDirect had quoted and they couldn't match it.
I called the CD guy back and and told him I wanted it and I picked it up two days later at a dealer about 10 miles from my house. I use this dealer for my service and they treat the truck just like I had bought it off of them. The other thing is that you are working wit a Ford dealer so any rebate or low interest rate that Ford offers you get through CD. They are great to work with and if they find your truck further away than you are willing to drive they will deliver it to you on flad bed.
If you know exactly what you want, I would recommend them. If you are looking to haggle with a dealer for a truck he or she has in inventory then haggle with the dealer you might get a better deal. At least use their web site as a starting point. It's hard for a dealer to argue with you whenyou got a price in your hand and the last time I checked the 02 screw was below invoice.....

Iwao,
I checked out the site carsdirect.com. I am not impressed! The price shown is $150 under invoice,"BUT" that is with the "REBATE"! Price is $850.00 "OVER" invoice. Not a very good deal in my book. Like I said where are these dealers selling the number one vehicle in the country for under invoice?I paid $100.00 over invoice, that is a terrific deal. The carsdirect rep could not believe I got that price. And the kicker is they use the same dealer that I went too!Again, who is going to sell a number one selling vehicle in the USA for under invoice? I think no one. Lets leave out the rebates here. I used alot of internet leads and best I could do is $100.00 over dealer invoice.I am not buying the under invoice thing at all.

Back in Nov 01, I purchased the 02 Supercrew that you described (only difference I did not have rear slider window, I wanted to avoid easy break ins) I paid $29532 which was apparently $250 OVER invoice. I figured this was a pretty good deal back in Nov 01.
I did not trade a car, and I got 0 percent financing (3yrs)
Anyone who traded a car to a dealer probably came out 2-3k down on the back side trade in. Dealers obviously factor this, and make there money here.
So it doesn't help to know how much someone paid above or below invoice, if they traded in.
Just my 2 cents. Good luck finding your new Supercrew. You will love it.

Madd,
So you got your car for 750.00 less than the cars direct price. Wow, that's great and I'm impressed. I know I couldn't get the one dealer I was working with to match the CD price on the truck I wanted, never mind beating it by 750.00
I think the other factor that you need to understand is the availability of the truck you want. The way it was explained to me was that my trcuk (model and color) was sitting on a dealers lot about 30 miles from where I live. The dealer I was working with and the CD rep were both calling around to find the same truck at the same time. The dealer with the truck figured there was someone looking for his specific truck so he wasn't willing to give it up cheap because there wasn't another one just like it in the area.
The CD rep finally found another one coming into town and he was able to meet the price he had quoted to me and have it delivered to another dealer near my house. I tried going back to the first dealer but he wasn't having any luck with the guy who had the truck on his lot so I had no choice but to go with the CD rep since it was the right truck at the best price at the time.
I'm sure if you look around or luck into a lot with your specific choice on their lot you can beat the CD price but in my situation that wasn't the case.

MADD,
Nowadays you can buy just about any vehicle for $100 over invoice. Most dealerships have an internet sales rep that sell cars all day long for $100 over inv. That, in my opinion, is a good deal and a good no hassle way to purchase a new vehicle. I purchased my wifes vehicle that way.
For this purchase, I used that as a starting point to get my deal and I played the car salesman game. I was willing to spend the time to wear them down. I bought a vehicle from their inventory and I bought near the end of the month. I also live in the Balimore area where there are a dozen or so Ford dealers, so it is very competitive. Bottom line, I paid invoice for the vehicle and had them install a $500(about $250-300 their cost) set of tubular running boards at no cost to me. Then I took the $1000 cash back from Ford.......So really I got the vehicle for about $1250 below invoice. I'm sure in more rural areas, the competition between dealers is not a factor and those dealers are less likely to cut a deal like this. I know I got a great deal and I worked a little to get it. And the poor dealership where I bought it still got their 3% Holdback from Ford and made money on the truck.

If you want to buy at $500 under invoice + receive the rebates, give Soerens Ford here in the Milwaukee area a call - ph 262-781-9800. I don't know if they are still selling them for this price but that's the deal I got when I special ordered my 02 Lariat on 5/11. My deal was the same whether I bought off the lot or placed a special order, with or without a trade, with or without financing, SCrew or SCab or ..., etc. Since I ended up ordering mine, I'll get whatever rebates that are in effect at the time of delivery. I'm hoping its at least as good as it is now - $1000.
If they aren't dealing, give Northpoint Ford - phone (414) 357-2150 or Breager Ford - phone (414) 281-6100 a try. Both we're willing to give me the same deal at the time but Soerens is closer to me and their service department has a better reputation.
Good luck ...
