Rim's-stock or aftermarket

Ok The last post about 3.73 gear's has got me thinking about what to do with rim's & tire's. SHOW ME SOME PIC'S PLEASE!

I have a set of 17" 10 spoker's on the truck now W/BFG AT's 265's. I also have a set of 17" FX4 rim's in my basement.
Should I go aftermarket with 285/75/16 on either Atlas , 589's or 143's ? I would lean tword the 589's or the 143's because they are easier to clean than the Atlas would be (I think). I want to run these all winter long & don't want to be swapping every spring and fall. I live in the winter salt belt of Wisconsin. The Atlas rim's have a little more stylin going on though.

I'm also concerned about losing to much power with the 285's.

Give me some pro's & con's of each & show pic's if ya gottem
Thank's... Mike

I'm a little partial to the Atlas style but the FX4 rims look pretty sweet too. As far as power loss, I haven't seen any. The truck still runs pretty strong. I also like the look of the wider 305's - they make the truck look a little more like a 4x4 and a little less like a roller skate if you know what I mean. Either way the Screw is the best looking truck on the road today.

Mike,
If you decide to sell the FX-4 rims, please let me know, I am very interested. I just picked up a new screw and am looking for these rims.
thanks Gino

I'm looking at some Moda R7 wheels 18x8.5". Here is a pic of them off Tireracks website:

Using the recommended 285/60 the overall tire height will increase by about 1.4". I wonder how much this will effect my speedo though.

KKirt1, how do those tires fit without a lift? Any rubbing?

Hey Fallscrew

Fallscrew,

Could I get a photo of your truck? I have the same 10-spoke rims, and looking at getting the same size BFG tires you have. you can email it to braboin@yahoo.com

Thanks a lot!

don't worry about power loss. i didn't notice any difference at all when i went to the 285.

hando,
305/70/16 are the same height as the 285/75/16, and mine aren't close to rubbing, and i don't think the width is enough of a difference to make them rub.

They fit perfectly. No lift, no rubbing! I think if you went with a wider rim or one with a different offset you may run in to problems but none here.

I wouldn't worry much about a power loss when going from 265's to 285's. There is a little, but not significant enough to make me wish I hadn't done the mod myself. I have since added a superchip & volant air intake, and my truck is faster now (w/ 285's) than it was when running the stock 265's. You also might want to look at the Eagle 1219's - they are like a 5-spoke version of the AR Atlas, and are several lbs lighter per wheel (which reduces unsprung weight).
