Question ?Power windows"

I thought that I read somewhere on here before something about being able to operate the power windows WITHOUT the ignition on???? I cannot find it again. It was something about working for like 10 minutes after the ignition is shut off???

If anyone knows about this, is it difficult for a rookie????? or for that fact, is it possible????

I have a 2002 XLT SCREW.

THANKS ALL!!!!!

As long as you don't open a door, the windows will work. Open a door, no more worky.

Yeah, it's called "Retained Power." Wish it worked on the radio too. There was a thread back in '99 or so that said you can do a mod to get the radio to stay on too. It was never that important for me to go tearing into my dash.

Sunroof works too!!! Yeah, since they did this, why not attach the radio too??? Think Ford, THINK!!!

I'm with Dennis it never was important enough to mess with the dash and wires to get the radio to work. My Windstar has it on the radio,,,, why Ford didn't do it on Screws?

Guys,

Maybe Ford didn't add the radio functionality to the retained power functions 'cause they never inteneded for anyone to just sit in their vehicle with the engine off and drain the battery.

I suspect that Ford provided the retained power feature in case you go off the road and into some water and your engine dies, you'll be able to roll down the window hopefully or get out through the moon roof if need be.

Just guessing, but there must be a reason, right?

Rented an Oldsmobile a few years ago that had retained power and everything stayed on so long as the driver's door wasn't opened AND closed. Passenger doors didn't matter. For me, that would be the ideal. I'd be able to shut off the engine and either close or crack open the windows while passengers are fleeing for their lives once I stop.

fleeing for their lives ... HAHAHHAAA you've got to remember to lock them in Dennis ! maybe you can add a remote lock on the passenger seat belts too !
