Should I buy a SuperCrew?
After 23,000 miles , I have no complaints . I use all of my truck's features on a regular basis . I still love it as much as the day I brought it home . This board seems to pick the fly $#!t out of the pepper . Don't let it discourage you . It has been the best investment I have ever made .
On the other hand , If I had invested $1000.00 in Nortel one year ago , it would be worth about $49.00 today but if I would have invested in $1000.00 of Bud beer then I would have about $79.00 worth of aluminum cans .
Choose wisely in these trying times .

It is my opinion that the Screw is the best designed truck built today. I have three kids, two in car seats, and they love it. Plenty of room for them in the back and plenty of room for daddy's stuff in the bed. I had a '97 supercab and there just wasn't enough room for the car seats in the back.
I can't say that I miss the foot of cargo space in the bed. I still haul whatever I need with no problems. I would say the best of both worlds - a people hauler and a cargo hauler.
As far as problems, well there are a few. I use to be very fanatical about the truck but not as much anymore. A few things bother me about the quality of the truck but overall I would give Ford a B.
Buy it! You won't regret it.

Hey kkirt,
Well put, I think the key thing to put into perspective here is the Super Crew's design is probably almost perfect, it's the manufacturing and quality control that needs work.
The design is just whatever the Engineer's and designer's intended to happen or what they wanted to be the final result, however the manufacturing and quality is what they allowed to get out the door and did not meet the original intent and that's what we see or get.
We never get to see or know the original design intent. The end user can only assume what the original design intent was envisioned by Marketing Gurus and Engineers.
I'll give Ford the benefit of the doubt that the design was flawless, or nearly so, just get the manufacturing quality in line with the design or within an acceptable limit and then, IMO, the Super Crew will be the best and most practical vehicle ever built.
Still love mine, just need time to get over the little imperfections that bother me.

There are lots of things that could have been done better on the Supercrew, but most of them are "minor". You pay a lot of extra money just for the extra doors (I suppose that as long as we are willing to pay it, that will continue). That having been said, I love my Supercrew.
Something to think about. First year models always have a lot of problems. Things that squeak, overheat, break, poor fits, etc... To make things worse, for the first 7-8 months of production, they couldn't make 'em fast enough to keep 'em on the lot. Accelerated production doesn't leave much time for fixes or quality control.
Ford has now had 18 months or so to work on any design and manufacturing problems, just waiting on the model year changeover to put them into effect. The '02 model should be a big improvement.

I have one, 22k miles, and it is indeed a cool truck. I will NOT buy another Ford until they improve their quality control. I'm a little bit pissed right now, because I just had to get it towed for the second time, and now I have another design flaw I will have to modify/defeat. I'll fix it up, and probably drive it until the wheels fall off. There is no other 4-door pickup that even comes close. No more Fords for me - the quality control is nonexistent.
Paint is thin and crappy, easily scratched.
Brakes don't last - 22k and I need rotors and pads already.
Front right hub started growling and had to be replaced.
Had to get the "right" radiator put in.
Shifter stuck in PARK twice, leaving me stranded both times.
Truck is a dog, even with the 5.4L, and needs mods/chip to pep it up.
Captain's chairs are uncomfortable and sagging already.
Left rear power window makes noise when going up or down.
Leather is crappy - and most of it is vinyl.
Yes it looks cool, and with two kids I love the 4 doors. Nothing comes close in it's class. But I will NOT be purchasing another Ford.

Well somebody has to set this buyer straight. This truck is one of the best riding vehicles around. Picked up my '01 Lariat this June and am still smiling, getting tired of hearing "NICE TRUCK" from everybody though. I took my first trip with the family in July to San Antonio,a twelve hundred mile trip from NC and didn't even think about stopping for the night.
Perfect? not hardly, gas isn't great, I've ordered an Expy console , installed a Hellwig rear sway bar,an ARE lid,and a K&N filter, but it's close.
I ordered mine From Black Mountain NC Ford for $98 over invoice
and only got the important things, 5.4, Limited Slip, 4X4,Running boards( my wife fell out the first day,it is big) Captains chairs and the Lariat package ,Black with Az Beige.
It is a Beautifull Black Truck.

I've had many different truck's both chevy & ford's over the year's
this one by far is the best one I've ever owned. They all have had quality problem's & all will continue to have quality problem's.
I take very good care of my truck both inside & out,but I refuse to worry about all the little quality issue's.If something goes to hell it goes to hell, it can happen with anything, make of vehicle or whatever.I get alot of compliment's on my truck & drive it hard like it should be driven & have never had a problem yet ( not to say it wont happen ) but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
Everytime you buy a truck or car you take a gamble on getting a lemon or a problem prone vehicle & that will never change with any brand. That's just the way it is (sad to say).
I would go for it if I were you. Best truck so far for me.
good luck...Mike

I have to reiterate this is a nice truck. I took mine to my hunting property this weekend and once again I drove home smiling. I love the way it runs and rides. I have had no problems whatsoever. I know sometimes people get lemons, but I believe this is a well built truck. My sister just traded her 250 for a SCrew and is very glad she did.
