Eruption of Mt. Dandruff!

fellow s-crewers,

just last night i had to turn on the windshield defroster, first time in quite some time. quess what, very small white flakes were flying everywhere! the dash was completely covered! i was almost thinking that i might have to put a bottle of "head and shoulders" in the tank. but seriously, has anyone been able to determine why this happens on occasion? the last time it happened to me was a couple months ago after i'd turned the a/c on high one morning after the truck had been sitting all night. those occasional white flakes are very annoying! thanks...

You must have a couple of those frozen chocolate covered ice cream bars stuck in the evaporator coil. You know, they are called igloo bars, aren't they? You may need to come down south and let that damn thing thaw out or something. Maybe the truck thinks it's Christmas too, didn't you set it's clock and date so it would know better what time of year it is?

same thing happened to me the other day...i thought it was drywall dust or something because i've been doing a project in the garage with the truck in the driveway but it is more flakes than dust.....must be something in the duckwork...maybe a mold release or something used when they make the ducts?

Yeah I have this stuff in my Screw as well. I caught a thread some time ago where somebody said it was excess flux from the build process? Not sure, the thread came and went without too much feedback.

Mine started this as well this summer. I did see a thread here that
said that there Ford has a technical service buletin out on this. Its not a problem limited to F150's but applies to other Ford's as well.
Apparently this is a flux used on the evaporator of the air conditioning that dries out and starts peeling off. Ths buletin covers the proceedure on how to clean the evaporator and A/C tubing to clean this up.

I am not bringing the truck in just for this but if I have to bring the truck in for any other service I will ask about this.

I did find this other thread.

Angry

I just got a response from my dealer saying they don't have anything regarding this flux in their notices...if anyone is able to locate it, please forward it to me, thanks.
