There was a couple of others with this problem. In their cases, it was white flakes. I think they had 2000 or 2001 trucks. Dealers said it was a factory problem with the use of a wrong kind of flux. There's some kind of cleaning procedure. Your dealer should know about it. If not, they should be able to look it up. If they don't, then find another dealer.

So, what year is your truck?

I'll try to find the post for you. It was in the HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) forum.

Found it. Just click on the link below:

I had the same problem on mine. I took it to my dealer and they say it is from the AC condenser. Apparently the flakes are coming off the condensor fins when water accumulates on them and drys. They stated that Ford has asked them to "clean" the condensor and the rest of the ducting to solve the probem. They have done this to at least 7 other vehicles (not just trucks) and have had to replace only 1 condensor, when the "cleaning" didn't solve the problem.

I have had the same problem on some of the work trucks. We got 4 2001 F-150 XL 4x4 and two of them had this problem. One went in for cleaning and replaced some vents. The other has been used daily and the problem is getting worse. I have heard rumors about a lawsuit, but nothing in for sure yet.
