Ford's response to HD radiator issue

Attached is what Ford has sent out to their dealers in response to the HD radiator issue. Basically, they claim that the 1" radiator meets all requirements so that is what they are using.

(see next message for 2nd page)

I think I need to show this to my dealer as he really didn't know what he was talking about.

I think we should all email the address at the end of page 2 and ask what Ford is doing to refund the money for the radiator we paid for that we no longer need.

Although I suspect that this is fake. Dr. Horace Power........come on now!

I think this would apply to the previous change form 1999 to 2000 model.

Our problems have been with changes within the 2001 model year.

I wonder what you guys paid for then? I don't have the towing package, will never tow anything, but

However, what I DO have is a transmission cooler, came with the truck. Does everyone else have the transmission cooler? My question is, is Ford charging the 350 bux for a seven wire harness, HD shocks and upgraded battery? I mean I guess they would be making out pretty good if you look at it in an incremental way. I mean it's not that expensive, but what else is supposed to come with the package?

Just curious and can't find anything else to post about ( ;

Very interesting...except...

When towing my Stealth TT (@4000lb) on a rental trailer (@1000-1500lb) the HEC test mode on my odometer showed the coolant temp to be 112 deg C, which is 234 deg F. This was towing up a small pass in N. CA (Altamont) with the overhead console showing the OAT to be 91 deg F. I have no idea what they call "overheating" seeing as my 1.02 seems to have failed the "hot sheet" test. Yes, the A/C was on but on a new truck I should be able to pull steeper passes at WOT in 120 deg F weather without overheating. Don't recall the temp needle position but I think it was higher than normal but no where near H. Also, during the summer the fan clutch had the fan engaged almost constantly which caused noticeably more noise and lower fuel economy.

So I went to my selling dealer and complained that my truck overheats when it tows and that with some research I had found that I didn't get the correct super cooling radiator that I ordered. They quickly found the BS about the 1.02 being correct and that the docs were wrong, but gave me a 1.42 radiator anyway. Probably since I gave them about 6 different pieces of info that stated that the radiator was wrong. They did contact the zone rep.

This thing seems to keep the coolant temp at 90-94 deg C no matter what. Which is as it should be.

IMHO, that hotsheet is a bunch of BS. If I got a 2002 I'd budget whatever a 1.42 or 2.2 dual core radiator into the purchace price because this 1.02 just doesn't cut it!

All F150s come with a trans cooler, the Tow Package
comes with a double size one. I verified mine with the non-
Tow Package.

That is exactly the way I got mine. I tow a boat through
the Southern California , Nevada and Arizona deserts.

The Service Manager went as far as getting me a 2.02"
double core!!!

ScrewnStLou -Thanks for posting that. However, I'm suspicious when I see no dates on a document even if it does come from Ford.

Also - in the engines section, under radiators, on page 45 or so, some one checked out some 20 new Expeditions with the tow package and claims that they still come with the 1.42" radiator. As far as I know the Expeditions come with the same drive train as the F-150's. Why do they need the 1.42" radiator if the F-150's do not? Someone tell Ford I'm not buying the bull.

Hey guys/gals,

Interestingly enough, the 2002 specs for the X show 1.02" and 2.02" core sizes but no 1.42" one.

Now you got me thinking again, same engine and basically entire truck is based on F-150 but drivetrain options are different????

This is the Link for the 2002 X specs.

Damn, right when you think you may have a handle on something, another wrench gets thrown into the equation.

Go figure. What we need for this issue is someone who really knows exactly what Ford is doing and why, like the radiator vendor or a cooling system design guy working @ Ford. But then again, if the Ford guy was to tell us, he would have to kill us right?

Angry Same BS

I went to Earnhardts in Arizona. (btw: They suck, I have purchased over $200k worth of vehicles in the last 4 years from many dealers and they are the worst!!!!)

They told me to hit the road and gave me that same flyer from Ford. I called Ford and told them I did not get what I paid for and all I am asking is for a replacement radiator and you can recycle my old radiator that has 34 miles on it. They said they would call back and never did.

Not happy with Ford and will NEVER buy from Earnhardts in AZ again.

Why are dealers crooks and why does it take a law suit to get anything done. We are not asking for new engines, just what they told us we would get.

Side Note: I do love Ford products, I think they make the best trucks.

I just got the "Horace Power" thing. The document looks legit to me...maybe the guys parents just had a sense of humor...or it is just a generic email address for technical questions. I know lots of mail order plces use a made-up name for the customer service manager and the whole customer service department can get at it. Anybody tried faxing him?

I too had a 1.02" Radiator. It took about three weeks to post e-mails and phone calls to customer service manager, service advisor, and Ford customer service. I finally I got an upgraded radiator, a 2.02". I should have had a 1.42" radiator, but I'll take the bigger one. I figure bigger is better...in this case.

Stay in the fight!
