Talking Screw with rear tool box, haven't seen one yet!

The majority of Scabs I see running around are fitted with rear aluminum tool boxes. I have one on my Scab and now want a KR Screw but I have yet to see even one with a tool box. Anybody done it on theirs yet? Is the space in the back just to precious to give up for a tool box? Some pics would be nice if available.

Thanks,
DaveMan

Saw a white gen I at sears the other day, Had a diamond plate full toolbox in the bed, it did take up some room but looked pretty nice. I didn't like the big "CRAFTSMAN" badge on the rear of the box though.

ive put several boxes on supercrews at work, you just cant use a real deep one (like the one i had on my s-cab) because the part that hangs down will hit the fender wells. So i guess i have to buy a new box, darn!

Talking Love the box.... it goes with the SCREW

I have a box on my screw...
20" wide
diamond plate
Gull wing style (both sides open toward the middle)
made by US Weld - Part number 10TB69
$275 installed (this is not your light duty auto parts store box)
Installed with "J" hooks no drilling

I am a cyclist and I drilled holes on the top of the box for four bike holders The bikes attach by the front fork (wheel removed)

Just got back from a labor day camping trip. As for bed space with a box ....... I had the following in easily

* 4 bikes
* 3 boogie boards
* 2 large (lafuma) folding reclining chairs
* a 20" box fan
* 2 bags of dirty laundry (on return)
* my dogs crate (collapses flat)- well to about 3" thick

So the box not only looks great ....and obviously you can still use the bed..... albeit maybe not for building supplies and the like ... but for camping..... GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry no digital pics...

Mike

Thanks for the input Mike,

Interesting story too, and sounds like if Ford were to make a bigger bed with the Screw you would probably own one.

I have been doing a little research since submitting this post. I looked at a different company, their web site is www.uwsta.com.

I think the company's name is United Welding Service but they only call themselves UWS. They have several models that are under the F-150 Screw section, one is very shallow and another is somewhat deeper but has notches where the fender wells are located.

One reason I want a box is I always carry a pair of jumper cables and a tow rope at a minimum. Other times I carry my chain saw along with more rope and rigging. The way I see it, if I'm going to own a 4x4 then I must carry a few items with me that go along with being able to go places a 4x2 wouldn't dare.

Talk to you later

Daveman,

I had the same dilemma as you looking for a toolbox to carry essentials and came up with a little different solution.

I ended up using a tool bin from Contico and just made a simple 2x4 frame for it to sit in so it does not move around.

It was the perfect height to fit under a tonneau cover and was very easy to remove if I needed the bed space. Although it is lockable it is not the most secure, they could just steal the whole thing, but I figure if they wanted it that bad they can have it without damaging the truck and underneath the tonneau cover it is out of site and out of mind.

The best part of it is the total cost, with 2x4 it was only $41.00.

Let me know if you would like me to post pictures.

Thanks for the idea xole,
I am sticking with the conventional type at this point. I guess that your setup probably works best with the tonneau cover as you mentioned. I won't be using a cover and I haul building materials on a regualr basis so I'm pretty much stuck with the standard type tool box. Diamond plate boxes are available but I'm just not sure how it all looks when put together.

Thanks,
DaveMan

I have a toolbox in the bed of my truck. I did have to drill four holes in the railings but it was not that bad. It looks sharp, I will try to upload a pic on here

Daveman,
I purchased a "standard" UWS, diamond-plate, single lid box for my truck and I could not be happier with it. The truck is our family car (wife and 1 kid) so the box serves as our trunk.
I'll see if I can get the model number for you. I paid $225 installed (they did use 4 small screws).

Thanks for the comments and pics DRKHORSE & VeryBlueScrew.

As for SCrewkid, I will shut up when and only when I am finished talking. Oh, and didn't your mother ever tell you it's not nice to tell others to shut up. If you don't want to read this crap then you can go elsewhere and do whatever you do with your free time.

Cool

I too installed an aluminum box in a '01 Screw.
Tools and golf clubs !!
I rely on the rev-limiter and gravity to keep the box in the truck.

Hey nordicbastard,

Man, it sure seams weard addressing you by your call name! Just what does it (your call name) mean anyway if you don't mind revealing it?

Thanks for the reply, any chance you got a couple of pics of the box on your screw?

What size box did you end up going with and what brand? Did your box have notches on each side at the bottom to clear the wheel wells?
Any other details about the box would be appreciated. So for mounting, the thing is just sitting there or is it screwed down somehow? Only asked about mounting becuase of your comment in your last reply.

Thanks for the help.

Does anyone have pics of the "J Hook" installation? I am having difficulty visualizing this.

THX,

Tommy

I saw a truck going down the highway the other day with a black diamond patterened tool box. The box was not the standard 18 or 20 inches in width. It was only about 10 inches wide and about 10 or 12 inches deep. Went all the way across the bed and had a single lid and was in a screw. Anyone know who makes it or sell it????? Looked good and did not take up a lot of room in the bed.
