Post 4R100 Tranny?

Somebody mentioned to me that the 4R100 tranny came in our 5.4 Screws with the III hitch. Is that right? I thought the 4R100 only came in the F250s and Lightnings. Can someone clarify?

The 4R100 only comes in the SCAB F-150 with the 7700lb payload package or the Superduty F-250. In essence that (7700lb)was the F-250 before they came out with the Superduty. We all have the 4R70W in our Screws. It's been a very strong unit in my truck and has all the guts I could ever need.

Not all screws have the 4r70. The HD's have the 100, I've heard some CA trucks have the 100. Best way to know is check the door tag, should say 44e I believe for the 4r100. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I stand corrected. Anyone know why the HD's and Cal. trucks have the 4R100 tranny?

So, how can we tell if the 4R100 is in our trucks? Is there some way to identify it? A number somewhere?

Look at your door tag, under tranny I think it reads 44E for a 4r100, don't recall the 4r70 code.

Just a followup, I recall that another quick check is the number of bolts holding the tranny pan on, like 14 for the 4r70 and 20 or so for the 4r100. Just and FYI.

Question

Interesting! Contrary to what I've read in a few places, my dealership tells me that there is NOT an 'HD' 7700 lb trailering option on the SuperCrew. Putting aside what you've heard from others, has anyone actually got a SuperCrew with a HD suspension package and a 3.73 gear?

Well, guys info you, my truck is from CA and its the 6600lb version and I have the 4R70W. So why did some of the trucks get the better tranny 4R100 and the rest of us did not?

i just looked at my door jamb sticker and couldn't figure out what tranny my genII 4x4 5.4l with trailor tow package had. the only code i could find that seemed to relate to tranny type was a "U" underneith TR on the sticker! well, looked in the owner's manual to try and figure this thing out. owner's manual says that the 4r70w uses mercon v atf while the 4r100 uses just plain old mercon. my tranny dipstick says mercon v on it. therefore, i must have the 4r70w since the owners manual says these two atfs are not interchangeable.

Cool

U is the 4R70W
E is the 4R100

California trucks get the 4R100 due to shift points & emissions. I don't think a 7700 Screw is available.

The 4R70 tranny handles less torque (700 ft/lbs) than the 4R100 (1000 ft/lbs) . The reason CA Screws have them was for emission purposes . The 4R70 less power loss than the 4R100 . It turns "easier". This gives better fuel mileage and less overall emissions .

Cool

I didn't say anything about efficiency, only shift points. Totally different. And the 4R100 can't suck up that much more power. I would think the fact it's heavier would affect mileage more than the internals anyways..
