Helper, What did your dealer call the "correct" radiator? Some of the guys are getting a F75Z-8005-GB with a 2.2" (2.02?") core and some are getting a YL3Z-8005-GA with a 1.42" core. By any chance did you get the actual Ford part number?

Armed with info from this site, I took delivery of my new Screw last Monday. Today they replaced my radiator with the 2 row HD model. Thanks guys for the info.

Ford's got to be paying for this, or maybe there's so much profit in these that it's not worth the effort to recall or change.

Talking

Add my name to the success list. Koons Ford Security of Baltimore promised in writing to replace my 1.02" with the 1.42" radiator before I would take delivery. They cleared it with a Ford rep today, who was painfully aware of the problem. Thanks to all on this site for getting the word out, and thanks to Troy Thacker of Koons Ford Security.

Success at last. Middlekauff Ford of Plano, TX replaced my little radiator with the 1.42" core, part number YL3H-8005-GA. The first service rep that I talked to (way back when)was not employed the next day. Maybe because he could not wave me off? The sales manager asked me repeatedly if I had any cooling problems (maybe saying that you have cooling problems is a magic word for Ford?) but I explained to him that I bought the tow package just to get the larger radiator. I figure that Texas summers combined with stop and go traffic with the air conditioner on is a good reason to purchase an oversized radiator. He said OK and got the correct radiator on order! It is now installed and it clearly has more cooling surface than the smaller one. Don't take no for an answer. Take the time to round up the information to show that larger radiators are installed on the trucks. Ask them how "supercooling" means a smaller radiator. Good Luck.

Bob Tomes Ford up in McKinney has ordered one of the 1.42" core radiators for me. They have been nothing but a pleasure to work with and I would recommend them to anyone interested in buying a Ford. My salesman, Tom Thompson, did all of the work. He mentioned that the service manager said that he didn't see anything wrong with my 1.02" core radiator, but Tom informed him that I had paid for the upgrade and he wanted me to have it. That is when they ordered it for me.

An interesting point-when I first started fighing my dealer about the radiator, I was calling other dealers in the area. One of them said that they have been installing the 2" core radiator in all the tow package replacements. Ford # F75Z-8005-GB. I asked what the 2" radiator was supposed to have been installed in and they claim it is the radiator for the Lighning. All I needed to do was give them my VIN and they would order from Ford! My dealer absolutly refused to install the 2" core unit.
It is interesting that some dealers fight like hell to cover for Ford while other dealers actually provide customer service!

Look in your vehicle manual in your glove compartment.

Mine states 2 rad's come w/ the 5.4. One comes w/ 1 row of tubes/fins the other w/ 2.

So what I can see it's either the 1" core of 2" core, not the 1.4".

My manual was the 3rd printing in jan-01.

Thumbs up

I too had an excellent experience. I brought the same problem up with my dealerships service manager (John Henesy at Green Valley Ford, FairField CA.), all he did was lift my hood to verify and put it on order. With in two days it was installed (1.42"). Thanks for all the info guys.
