4x4...they tried to bring a new motor for my buddy but they are even having a tough time bring in new trucks with the Duramax diesel!

So 4x4...it's not a sitution of holding water, but a situation of holding antifreeze. Hey if I had the bucks to dish out on a diesel I to would be looking at a PowerStroker or a Duramax...so before you start calling peoples stories BS, maybe you should have a look at your own comments that are being thrown out on this board.

Us Canucks would never tell a lie to our southern buddies!

Well, from what the tech says on thedieselpage is that when i new engine is needed it is shipped out to the dealer within a week...so if your story is true, he should have a new motor real quick....i repeat, no GM dealer is authorized to tear down the Dmax to put in anything much less heads...the only people tearing them down are the techs at DMAX LTD. where the research is being done on the problem engines...

And yes i know how hard it is to find a dmax truck anywhere much less canada..but getting a replacement engine is supposed to be much quicker...tell your bud to surf over to the dieselpage and talk to the DMAX tech...

Sorry about the attitude, but there is so much bs floating around it is crazy...somone even posted a blown dmax the other day on the dieselpage and said it was theres...well turns out it was a GM test engine that was run in severe and adverse conditions until it blew...once the tech saw it, he immediately recognized it a pre-production model and dismissed the rumor...that guy has since disappeared...

Sparker...

Stick with it! Even though I'm one of the people who is actively pursuing the tranny thunk issue with Ford, I'm not frustrated or angry because for me, the good far outweighs the bad. I could gush on and on about all the great experiences and fun I've had with the truck over the past six months, but suffice to say...NO REGRETS!

Better yet, we have a great online community where we can ask questions, get help, and be called out if we're being too whiny or ****.

I can honestly say that this is the best "ownership experience" that I've ever had with a car.

Thumbs up

Unfortunately, unhappy or pissed off people tend to scream the loudest. I was like that last year when I was battling with my 2000 chevy LEMON! I had to take Chevy to court to get them to take it back. I probably would have purchased another chevy since I worked for Chevy and have driven nothing but..the experience was just too awful...and besides the screw is one good looking truck. I have had mine for almost one year and I don't have any regrets..I love my truck! It is fun to drive, solid! and have had no problems at all! (knock on wood) Chevy just came out with the true 4 door, but they are the Heavy Duty...I get 20mpg from my peppy 4.6L. The true four door chevy..you'll be lucky if you get 12mpg...Gas prices are soaring!

Thats funny....sounds like BS to me...you see, GM is replacing all Duramax's that have problems with a completely new engine...so your story of waiting for heads doesn't hold water...in fact the GM tech on thedieselpage.com has said not one engine has been brought back for failed heads...Try Again!

4X4, I was looking at the Chevy Crew also...the problem is that it will come with the 6.0L and mileage will be awful. Mileage is important to me as I don't tow much anymore, so, I decided on the SCrew.
FWIW, I traded a '99 Chevy CC, short box, 4x2, 7.4L and at 11 mpg around town it was killing me...

I hear ya...i think the 5.3 is plenty for the 1500 crew cab...my father in law's 2001 burb gets 15 city and as high as 19...plenty of get up in it too...i think Gm blew it with only allowing the 6.0 in the 1500 crew...

I got a 2500HD crew cab with the 6.0...city mileage is 12 and 14 highway...its a 4x4 and i have 33 inch tires on it also...i was hoping for 13/16 but thats not going to happen..i have actually thought about trading in the HD on a screw....my only fear is the 5.4...i had it in my Superduty in it really had no pep and blew up at 27K miles...i know the SD is way bigger than the screw, but it just left a bad taste in my mouth...i come from a GM family, so naturally i ventured into ford water and got burned...i guess that is why i am hesitant right now...

If i trade, what mileage can i expect with the 5.4 and 4x4? If it can get the 13-17 than i might just do it..

The only other thing about the Chevy crew cab is that with the 6 foot bed, it becomes as long as the 3/4 ton, and it loses the manuverablity and handling that the 1/2 ton has. I know that the Ford 3/4 ton can't even come close to parking in some of the spaces that I can park my Screw. What would make the Chevy different? I admit, the 6 foot bed would be really great, but the inability to drive like I'm used to would bother me. It's a good looking truck, but I think the Screw still has the leading edge.

Hey we are neighbors, i live out in baytown and work in houston...BTW, where did you by your screw??

I mainly like the ford because of its agressive stance...the chevy's sit too low...if i keep the chevy i am adding a 6 inch suspension lift to it...if i get the ford a three body lift will do....

the best thing about the chevy's are the engine to me...the 5.3, 6.0, and 8.1 haul butt...i love that, but it comes at the cost of burning too much gas....
