The skinny on 4.6L S'Crews
I have had both engines. without question the 5.4 is the way to go. the 4.6 has plenty of power and ok mileage.the 5.4 works easier to achieve the same power and than has much more if needed. I am not putting down the 4.6 in anyway but after owning the 5.4 I know I made the better choice.Ultimately the choice is yours and more than likely you will be happy with either. good luck

Ohhhh believe me Grumps it's gonna keep costing you down the road.
Everytime you pull up and someone goes "hey whatcha got under the hood?" what will you do, drop trou or whimper "uh 4.6". Of course then you're gonna hear "what!!? why didn't you get the manly motor, you know the 5.4?"
lol
OK, kidding aside the costs of ownership will be very similar as the gas mileage will depend heavily on how much of a lead foot you have. Plus you will get a little more for the truck when that fateful day arrives and you sell your beloved supercrew.
Ok back to kidding: if I had a "performance" issue I would've gotten the Lightning.
BTW, to all you guys horning in on my handle: get your own handle this one's taken. ;-)

I can offer that in my family, we have BOTH engine sizes! My truck has the 4.6L in it...I have no complaints. I have a solid (very heavy) tonneau cover and a whole bed full of copier repair parts (my job) so its semi loaded down and it still does fairly well. When I drive my wifes Expy with the 5.4L, I can DEFINATELY feel the difference, but I still have no regrets about my 4.6L (other than my wife's Expy can spank me!!!

Ok... Ok.... confession time for me Screwdriver...
1) Nobody I know is gonna ask me which engine I have under the hood.... they'll just say, "I can't believe he got another truck," or "Who would park that here?"
2) I only know of one other attorney who even drives a truck.... and he doesn't count 'cause it's a Chevy.
3) Back on the gas issue and the amount of driving I do.... with the 4.6L I'm gonna get practically an extra days worth of driving before I'd have to fill up the tank as compared to the 5.4L. I hate gas stations... hell, they're not even gas stations anymore... they're damned cappuccino bars. So... score another one for Grumps.

Interesting point Screwdriver.... not the one you brought up intentionally, but one that comes to mind with your last post.
This radiator problem may only involve the 5.4L engines. At least one post that I read stated that there may have been an issue with size and fit with the bigger engines. Perhaps this may be deserving of a bigger thread, but are there any 4.6L owners who were short changed with their radiator supplied with their towing package?
As for the decision regarding which engine to go with, based upon the posts received, it appears to be one of personal preference. I've made mine, and you've made yours, as have others. Of course, personal preferences can be logic based or affected by greater issues best left for other discussion boards. I am confident of my reliance upon the former rather than the latter.
As a side note.... any decent attorney knows that you don't have to win to make money.

Gee, I didn't expect to find sexism on a Truck Forum..... I am shocked, and quite frankly, disappointed.
Although you might think that only men discuss, and women "bicker," I must disagree. I've known many a female lawyer who could present sound legal argument.... trouble is, they won't always go out to drink with you afterwards....
Happy St. Patty's Day everyone....

Awwww, don't close it down just yet this is the first time I've had genuine fun on this forum.
No problem Grumps, glad I could help. Ya'll can chat that up on a 4.6 thread.
Oh, can anyone explain to me what his third paragraph said? Too many highfiluting words. Ok, ok I'll let it go and start something else.
Also, you never argue with a woman; you just tell her how it is.

Ohhhh, that's weak. Are you actually winning cases for your clients with that sort of logic?
"If the glove does not fit, then you must acquit." lol
You know if you stay with the 4.6 then you might not get the BIG radiator. God forbid you develop a little radiator envy along with 5.4 envy. hee hee. But at least when you pass up that first gas station just to pull into one 3 miles down the road you'll have that warm feeling of making all the right choices.
Of course, you'll need that extra .62 mpg's to haul your lawyer buddy back and forth to the dealer to get his Chevy fixed.

Well, I was kidding around when I said that but I can see that I should pull back on the ol' have fun reins.
As far as women being usually right; you've got to be kidding. They aren't right about things anymore than anyone else.
