Unhappy Locked Out

This just happened. Started the SCrew out in the garage. Wife called me. When I came back it was runing & locked. The remote wouldn't unlock it. Just glad it happened at home. Why is this.

You like many others found this out the hard way. You can only unlock the truck while running with the keypad on the door if you have a Lariat. See this thread for more info.

Here's a cheap solution. First off, don't separate the factory key from the remote.
Get a replacement key cut at your local hardware store, not from the dealer. Your cost will be about 2 bucks. The key will unlock the door but will not start the truck. Keep it in your wallet.

When the truck is running, the remote is disabled. A key from the dealer will run many bucks because it will have the chip in it that will allow the truck to start.

If it weren't for trucks, we wouldn't have tailgates.

The dealer made me a key for $25. Had to find a 'Hide-A-Key' box big enough for it. It's under the truck. I had to do this because my wife has the other set and she's never around unless I'm doing something I'm not suppossed to and misplacing my keys doesn't qualify.

I learned about this the hard way many years ago. My solution - TWO complete sets of keys on my person AT ALL TIMES!

Raoul- check to make sure the key you have hidden away works. I have heard that the magnets on the hide-a-key will cause the key to "unprogram" itself. Is this true?

Well it better not be, damn it!
If it is I'll sue the North AND South Pole for everything they got!

I'll have to get back to on that. I got my good clothes on.

My spare worked. It's been under there for nearly two years so I guess there's no magnet damage. I had the key wrapped in plastic to protect from moisture and that's a good thing because the case tells a story that I've been some places...
