Frozen accelerator pedal??
Has anyone else had this problem yet?? When the weather is very cold (everyday for the last 3 weeks), the gas pedal will stick the first time you try to use it in the morning. This has happened even when I've had the truck warming up in the driveway. Once you step on it hard enough, the pedal will break free, then it's ok till the next morning! This hasn't happened everyday, but at least 3 times this month. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you correct it??

Mine did it this morning for the first time, it was about 5 deg F here this morning. I wasn't too alarmed since I've seen it on here before. It went away before I left the neighborhood.

It happened to me about a week ago. We had gotten some wondeful Lake Effect snow, and it was very cold. In the teens I believe. I had started the truck to warm up while I cleaned off the snow. I then backed out of the driveway into the street. When I put it in drive, I was VERY shocked when I realized the gas pedal was stuck. After tapping on it a couple of times it broke free. I guess I didn't think too much of it at the time. Luckily it was very early in the morning and no traffic in the street.
Now that it has happened to others, it gets me wondering if this may be a problem.

I had this same problem on my 1997 Explorer. It was not a temperature issue, but the dealer replaced the linkage and the problem never returned. I think it even ended up being a recall item.
It has been -30C for about a week now and I haven't had a problem yet. I'll watch for it as it is supposed to be -38C tomorrow. We haven't had weather like this for a few years but we are sure making up for it.

I've had this happen several times lately. Chicago weather has been pretty bad the last few weeks. When the temps are really cold (well below freezing), I can count on the gas pedal sticking the first time I touch it. I'm actually trying to train myself to "test" it when the car is park before pulling out.
Funny thing is, I had the same intermitent problem with my '98 EB Expy.
Funny what you can get used to...

Wow,
Everyone with a problem, please contact the NTSB (national transportation safety board) site right away with your experience. The internet is providing great value for consumer issues and this is a perfect example. Some owners have a problem, some don't. A sticking gas pedal would have to rank right up there with "the top ten things you don't want to happen in your car (truck)."
I'm livin' in AZ so this probably wont ever affect me, but spending 10 minutes might save a life or more in the future, and you gotta feel good about that !!
I don't know the web address of the NTSB off-hand, but you'll find it fast enough through searching this site or the WEB.
Could this be related to the 'adjustable pedal' (very cool) feature on the SCrews ??

The only times that I change the position on the pedals is when I'm vaccuming out the inside. Then I put the pedal all of the way back again. As I recall though, it seems the pedal froze on me mostly when we have had rain or freezing rain or wet snow the night before, but not always! I think its time I call the dealer and get some suggestions on how they are going to fix this! Thanks for all of the replies... it's good to know it's not just me!
Mtnmike, I've had a "loose linkage" for years now ... just ask my wife!!

I've had 10 and 8 degrees BELOW zero and this
problem hasn't happen. I use the block heater
and I really don't think that would have anything to do with it..

Did it first time this morning, about 15 degrees. Froze up at idle. Took a decent stomp to free it, and then worked fine.

My 97 did it. My 2000 does it. Had it happen 3 or 4 times in the past 2 weeks. A good kick right after I start it and it works. I suspect a lube somewhere is needed, but not sure where. I should look at it one of these days 8^)
