Post Call or Fold

Need opinions -
Ordered my Crew 8/4 after 13 weeks it is still 'clean and unscheduled'.

Dealer reasons so far - 1."Factory that supplies Crews to the mid-atlantic region is currently building higher numbers of Excursions and Explorers."(I informed him that only one factory builds the Crew)-He stated he was mis-informed.
2."All fleet orders are placed in production before individual orders".
3. "Clean and unscheduled could be your status today and your truck could show-up three days later."

I know I getting BS everytime I talk to these guys, but they will be more than happy to give my deposit back, so I can start the process all over again at another dealership.

Call or Fold?

P.S.- I am paying $100.00 over invoice through United Buyers Service.
Big Daddy thought he was getting frustrated!!!

VMF214,

I have noticed your posts for sometime now and I think something is just not right here. I don't think there is any way it should have taken this long. I wonder if the dealer messed it up somehow. I ordered a screw on 9/26 and a vin was assigned by 9/29. I don't know who to call but I think you try to get a straight answer from Ford directly or just give up and go to another dealer. I really don't buy the clean and unscheduled to truck in a couple of days though. Best of luck.

Thumbs down

I would get my deposit back and go buy one off the lot. A large dealer has to have about what you want and sell if for about that price. Even if you paid a few hundred more it would be worth it for the aggravation of waiting and calling.

maybe if you look around at what the dealers have in the surrounding areas, and see if it meets your requirements, then go back to dealership land "where anything is possible" and grant them thier wish... get the deposit back ,, there are a ton of super crews already delivered in the surrounding areas, that unless you've ordered something special, will do the job,, maybe even in the same color,, your dealer is not being fair to you. he has your money at least he can give you some stright talk... walk away and hit him where it hurts the most,,,, in his wallet..

VMF,

You are getting your chain pulled bigtime.

I'd look around and find an SCrew on some dealers lot and go back and tell your moronic dealer you want it at $100 over invoice and have him do a dealer transfer.

I hope you put your deposit on a credit card so you can dispute it should your dealer not be willing to give it back to you.

I'd threaten to call the BBB, FTC, SEC, CIA, FBI, NFL, AFL-CIO, NCAA and write letters to every newspaper in a 100 mile radius about the treatment you have received by this dealer.

Trust me, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. If you show them you are serious, they will want to make you happy.

Good Luck!

Hey VMF 214,

I ordered my Screw on 9/18. Called my salesman yesterday (after 6 weeks, forecast delivery 8-10 weeks) to check the delivery date on the Screw. He told me another 6 weeks until it showed up. He said this due to the "Canadians falling down on us". I guess that meant he thought that they are built in Canada and that those fine people up there just couldn't get the job done. (Really built in KC). Today after some reflection on the matter I called up the dealer and talked to the New Truck Sales Manager. Told him my situation and he knew exactly who I was and said that he had only 1 Screw on order and it had to be mine. Sure enough it was. After some fairly straightforward questioning he told me matter of factly that it was not actually ordered until 10/16 because the salesman had not verified the order with him. The salesman only had a printup of the order and had neglected to actually see that the Manager had placed the order. He apologized and promised to "discuss" it with the salesman. He was very forthcoming and said it had a build date of 11/6 and should be delivered by 11/20. I don't know how much this helps and I plan on "discussing" it with my salesman myself, but it still lies within the 8-10 weeks I was originally told. I will wait and take delivery then. If another problem crops up, and I don't expect one, I will take appropriate measures then. I suggest you verify it was actually ordered. BTW, I have a neighbor who works for Ford and he says that they build based on when it is ordered. Also, they build Superduty's in Louisville and they are a completely different platform than the F-150's and the same can be said of the Explorer. I can't really say if there are any other motivations these dealers might be driven by but my feelings are that they are more likely to "Screw" up than they are to purposefully delay your truck.

Good Luck,

Screwdriver.

Thanks for the replies !!!

Looks like I have some dealerships to visit !!

Just to add to the BS in all of this -

The salesman's wife, I am dealing with was in a major automobile crash 2 years ago - she suffered severe orthopaedic injuries.

Guess what... I work for the regional level one trauma center - not only that, but I am on the orthopaedic trauma team.

That's right - my salesman's wife was admitted to my institution and we did our job. She has been put back together and is back to a normal life. The least he could do is get me my truck!!!!

It is truly a small world!

It is easy to see . . . which of us bought S'Crews through dealers with allocations and those who did not. I learned a great deal in the process. Dealers will lie to you to get the deposit. There is not much they can do with respect to improving delivery if vehicles are not allocated to respective dealer. Find your zone or territory manager, explain situation, and insist that you want same deal with already built S'Crew from the area. He should agree to dealer trade as was the case for me.

VMF214,

Get your deposit back as they are promising to do and start shopping around. Also report them to the buyer's service as well for not playing fair. Just for the hell of it see if there are any other complaints from consumers using the same service with respect to that dealer.

What they are trying to do is take deals from the Buyer's service then hold them in cold storage until you finally "Come to your senses" and tell the saleman that you'll pay more to get a truck quicker. I'm surprised you didn't get any calls from them about "expediting" the order. The dealer wants to make as much as invoice as he can and the $100.00 over won't cut it as far as he's concerned.

A large dealer in my area had tried that same basic approach a few years back via autobytel.com by taking autobytel's referrals and basically adding fees when you went to get your truck delivered. The fees were basically added accessories that they "Couldn't" remove without damaging the vehicle.

Hope all works out. The supply is finally starting to catch up with demand according to my dealer. They're starting to roll in on a regular basis.

VMF214,

Just thought I'd give you my story. You won't feel so bad.

I ordered my S Crew on April 28th. Received it on Sept. 25th!!! Five long months!!! Now you wonder why the Hell it took so long? I still don't have an answer. But I can say that I got the best deal I could ever get. Just wish it had come in sooner. I purchased my truck through the employee plan. My brother-in-law just started to work for Ford this past spring. He had already bought a Mercury Villager, and he knew I was thinking of buying a truck. He said he is allocated 4 vehicles a year for employees and family. So now was the time to buy. Knowing the way my Bro-in-law can change his mind (ie. jobs), I jumped on it.

When I went to the dealer to talk to the salesperson, I was right up front and told them I wanted to order a truck through the employee 'A' Plan. They had no problem with it. One of the longtimers from the back office came out and worked with me. First he tried to find me one, without luck, so we put in the order. He said that with it being an 'A' Plan, it should be about 4-6 weeks. I said "WOW"! By Fathers Day. But I expexcted it to be about 8-10 weeks. Possibly by Independance Day. Well, needless to say, it got to a point where I thought I'd never see it. He kept checking the order and found nothing wrong with it. It was "Clean and Unscheduled" forever. I finally learned about the VOPC on this message board. And I was able to follow it. Finally by August there were changes to the status. Scheduled to be built week of 9/4, delivery week of 9/25. I followed it to "at the Ramp", "shipped via rail carrier", "at the ramp" again, "shipped via rail".... till finally, "vehicle has reached it's destination" on 9/22 (my birthday). Picked it up on 9/25! The dealer still to this day doesn't know why it took so long. He had another order that went in about the same time as mine, mine arrived first. There was a plant closure for 2 or 3 weeks in july that bumped it out a bit, but 5 months was a long time.

I've had my SuperCrew for just over a month now, and I love it. Alot of the neighbors have commented on have great it looks. I have to admit, It does look great.

Whatever you decide to do, You'll love it when you get it.

Can't help but think - that if I get my deposit back - the next day VOPC would be "your order has been serialized". It's got to be getting close !!!

VMF214,
You may be right about getting your deposit back and the VOPC would give a scheduled build date the next day, but it sounds like you can find what you want and at a good price from another dealer. From the comments you have about this dealer I think you would have other problems as well.
This is why I went with my dealer. I was always told you could not get the Screw on the x-plan which I'm eligible for. My dealer said there's nothing stoping me from ordering it at that price. I specked the truck with the options I wanted. I signed no papers and payed no down payment. He says if the truck comes in and Ford wouldn't sell it at the x-plan price I could buy the truck at $100.00 over invoice. Or I didn't have to take the truck and they would put it on the lot. He gave me copies of the order and also copies of what the drive off price would be taxes, tags etc. No hidden charges.
Like you it was taking a long time to get the truck scheduled to be built. I didn't pressure him about this at all.I e-mailed him that I wanted to change the color and in this process after 10 or 11 weeks I ask if it usually takes this long to schedule a truck on the east coast. He took the initiative and made a call, the truck was scheduled two days later. It's being built next week. I have nothing to loose and no obligations. I bought my wife's car from this dealer and we were impressed with how he went out of his way for us. This is the way we should all be treated.
Good luck, keep us informed.
