Gas Mileage while towing...Ouch!
Been pulling a 16', dual axle trailer carrying a 1951 Ford 8N tractor and Woods mower off and on since I've had my 'Crew. Weight of trailer and load is 4500-5000 lbs. After 3252 miles and 12 stops at the pump, I've averaged 13.24 mpg, with a high of 14.97 and a low of 11.52. Decided to check mpg while towing only this last time. Big surprise: 8.63 mpg! Ran 70-75 mph that trip. Going to slow it down next trip and check again.
Anybody else with similar or different experience?

I have been pulling a 20' enclosed car trailer with a total weight of 6000 lbs. with a 5.0L Bronco w/3.55 axle and too large a tire (31.5 x 15"). When driving at 60-70 mph, I averaged 8 mpg. Now I have the F150 with the 5.4L, I hope to do a little better.

About 8 mpg
I've just averaged about 8mpg pulling a 20.6ft Larson. (5150 GVW) By the looks of this thread I might not have much luck doing any better. Just doing 65 mph with overdrive off. Any ideas on how to increase this.
When I was reading and I saw that you averaged 13, I was really surprised, that's not bad at all. When I saw the 8, I figured you had a right to complain. I've noticed that the RPMs REALLY make a huge difference. Keep that under 2k while cruising ~65-68 mph for me max with 3.73's and you'll notice those mpg's go back up.

I always just expect to get single digit mileage while towing. I just occasionally tow so the F150 is perfect for me. If I towed a lot then a SuperDuty with PowerStroke would be a no brainer for me. Gassers just don't tow efficiently.
I came back from Missoiri to Pennsylvania with a 2200 lb 18' carmate trailer. Flat trailer. I had a dirt track car on that weighted about 1500 lbs and went about 70-75 the whole time and averaged high 12's low 13's. I had maybe 5,000 miles on the truck then. I have near 30,000 now and been seeing better and better gas mileage!!!
