4.6L Supercharger!
Something to think about!
The guys up here in Calgary(Canada)are ordering up their Supercrews and quad cabs with the 4.6L engines and installing superchargers on them. They are paying $2800.00 (Canadian) for this part and increasing the horsepower and torque by 45% to 55% over stock. I took a dealers demo for a test drive just to see...and HOLLY COW do these things rock hard! You save $1,000.00 on the 5.4L, you get the reliability out of the 4.6L and you can go play with the big blocks on the hills and streets. After I came back from test driving the 4.6L supercharger I asked to take a 5.4L.....Not even close, the 4.6L would walk all over it. This 4.6L supercharger made by Power Dyn does not affect any warranty and is installed in 4hrs and looks like a stock part. It makes no noise and is very fuel efficient....all it does is just push more air....how much easier can it get?
So save the $1000.00 for the 5.4L, add another $1800.00 and receive twice the HP and torque....makes sense to me. The dealers and performance shops say that they have been installing them on the 4.6L for years that include our Police highway cars, mustangs and a ton of trucks....they say its a perfect match!
Just something to think about....I have my 4.6L on order!

2001, you have a very creative approach to obtaining the desired power on your new truck. This will really get the 5.4L crowd here revved up about your choice. I too chose the 4.6L for the reliability and better fuel economy. I felt adding a few after market components would deliver the additional power I wanted at a cheaper price and guess what it has. However, in doing so I find myself wanting more and more power like some sort of addict. You are smart by going for the gusto right off the bat and adding the supercharger. To be safer with these modular engines and a supercharger upgrading the exhaust to headers and a high flow muffler isn’t a bad idea. This will reduce the chance of blowing a head gasket if you really romp on the gas and create some serious boost. A normal break in period of at least a 1K miles would also be a good idea before adding the supercharger. Good luck and keep us informed.

Thats great news but what happens when someone like myself puts a supercharger or turbo on a 5.4. I have been racing Mustangs for many years and one thing is always common, longer stroke equals more torque. There is no replacement for displacement. I have a buddy who just ripped his supercharge off his 04 lightning and is replacing it with a Garret GT 42 turbo. He is currently fabricating it now. So you might over power a 5.4 now that your going with forced induction but remember us 5.4 guys has the same capability. Thats my $.02

4.6 supercharger
I found this forum searching for info on supercharging my 2003 ford F150 4.6L engine. I love the truck, but when I bought a trailer last year I was not thrilled with the power going up hills. I added cat back flowmaster exhast, an Airraid air intake, and a Diablo Predator reprogram. It helped, but I still want more. I test drove a 5.4 the other day pulling my trailer and it's not much better. Also test drove a diesel and that has all the power I need, but I have no desire to spend a ton of money. From what I gather, supercharging is the way to go. What caught my eye about this thread (and yes I know it's old) was the first post about "guys up here in Calgary(Canada)are ordering up their Supercrews and quad cabs with the 4.6L engines and installing superchargers on them...". I have called a couple of places in town (Calgary by coincidence), and one place says they can put one on for me for around $7500 including labour. It is a complete kit, intercooler and all. I would prefer to spend less money. From what I have read, you can run a supercharger without an intercooler as long as you stay with moderate boost. Anyone have any good suggestions? Or just pay the $7500 and go with a complete kit?

RED ROUSH, my 4.6 is a V8, not a V6. I have done a little research and from what I can tell, the Procharger is the only SC made for an 03 4.6. And I am being told, get the intercooler with it.
Richard, if you were commenting on the 5.4 vs 4.6 for my benefit, I have the 4.6 and won't be getting a 5.4. If I am going to spend $$, putting a SC on a 4.6 will meet my needs.
risupercrewman.........I don't care if a 5.4 can take my 4.6. My days of racing are long behind me. (But boy do I still wish I had my 1970 mustang fastback)

I've owned both 4.6L & 5.4L F-150's and I would dare say the 4.6L does not deliver better fuel economy nor is it any more reliable of an engine than the 5.4L. It's simple. The truck is very heavy and the 5.4L doesn't have to work all that hard to move it as compared to its little V8 brother. Since 4.6L's don't sell very well, you can pick them up cheap, if you're so inclined. I wouldn't be surprised to see the 4.6L fade from the F-150 line-up.
That aside, a turbo charged 4.6L would deliver quite a bit in performance. That peformance is probably best left in a Mustang. I got all the power I need in a "truck" from the stock engine.

I have the Powerdyne BD11A on my 4.6, it is not the best by a long shot, but I got a great deal on it and I picked up some decent HP. I would probably go with a Paxton, Vortech, or ATI Procharger(don't know anything about the Allen S/C). I know a few people with the ATI on the 4.6 and they have been VERY happy with the results
