Input on REALISTIC purchase price...PLEASE!

I would appreciate you all looking this link over and give me YOUR honest realistic purchase price I guy SHOULD be able to get this truck for in this economy. I will be financing it but not with the dealer as of yet. So he will get my check for the amount. Thanks for all your input.

To me in all honesty, that seems a bit high.

Just as a frame of reference, I bought my 05 FX4 w/ leveling kit, 35's, and aftermarket wheels w/ just under 30k miles just 4 months ago for over 10k LESS than what they are asking for that one.

Now granted, mine is 2 years older, and had about 10k miles more, but has a lot more options than that one and already had a little aftermarket stuff on it and was from a dealer. It would be one thing if it was a private party sale, but I really think you could get one for a pretty good amount cheaper.

Unless of course there is something extra special about this one that I'm missing?

I wouldn't pay more than maybe 22k max myself since the values have gone up a bit since I bought mine, but no way 28k.

^^Agreed. I wouldn't even pay 27K for an 08 let alone an 07 with many more miles.

Thats what I want to know...he quoted me right off the bat at $26,697.00 I am hearing reports of people actually BUYING this almost exact truck...color, year, miles and options for $19-$22K. I just want to KNOW as much as I can if I make him an offer on it.

Just want to know if this is bull or the real scoop. Thanks and keep it coming.

It books out around $22k. I would offer him $20k and see what happens.

My thoughts as well. Providing I and the wife DO like it and we WANT to buy it...I was going to shock him with my first offer of $19,500 and IF I really want it bad going NO higher than $22K MAX FINAL OFFER!!

I had a dealer one time cop a 'tude' with me and ask me if I was aware of "what things were going for?" I read that, "you need to wise up chump" That is when I will bring out my internet print outs and let him read and weep. "We settle very close to this and we have us a deal."

This truck had an MSRP of 40k back in June 2007. Last fall you could have gotten this in an 08 for 28k - 30k. I would say 23k.

Well I am going to drive it on Friday. If it is as clean and sweet in person as it looks on the net I will offer $18K for it and see their reaction. But I will not go more than $21,900 my top dollar. Depending on how long it has been on the lot they probably didn't give anyone $16 or $17 for it in trade.

Since it does not come with alot of aftermarket goodies you can probably do more negotiating than I could with my fx4.

I just bough an 06 with 6" procomp stage 1 lift, Amp steps, FX4 package with leather etc... for 22k, but could not haggle because while I was there 3 different people walked in to look at it but I was already negotiating. Supply and demand. Only one of these in the area with all the goodies and alot of people who liked it.

Also a good friend of mine bought an 06 with 20k on the odometer for 16k in stock form.

If you really want to mess with them get a carfax report. If you look at the history of the truck you may find that it was sold at auction. If this was the case you can do a google search for NADA Auctionnet. This is a program available to dealers at a cost of roughly 600 bucks but for some reason they give you a free 30 day trial. Enter the vin number, mileage, select a region (usually listed on the carfax if sold at auction). When I searched for my truck the carfax said it was sold at auction in the pacific region on such and such date.

Once you search it will give you all the vehicles that matched what you entered. In my case it showed only 1 truck sold in that region which just happened to be on the same date and with the same mileage as listed on the carfax report. So I went in knowing exactly what the company paid for the truck. Figure in another grand in auction fees, shipping, and maintenance to get it ready for sale, then add a reasonable profic of like 5% on that for your low baseline target price.

Well I went to drive the truck in question today. Not good. It was NICER than I thought it would be but the dealer would NOT go below $26,500 (started at $26,697) I guess he's not hurting as bad yet as others. We talked interest rates and my final offer of $21,900 or $22K. He said no way would he discount it an additional $5K.

He figured me a payment of $454 for 6 years @7.45%. That would be at the $26,500 price. He also asked me for $500-$1000 down.

I also asked him to give me his best price on an 09 Supercrew. Not much discounts, 0% and a $770 something payment. I said NO F'ing way!

I got home absolutely exhausted. I hate car dealers. They were very nice and treated us great but to much for the used truck, too high a payment and one year longer term. I didn't buy the truck and I STILL feel like I was F'ed.

What did they say about the book price on it? Why so much over?

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you had but it is probably for the better.

Also did you go in with copies of similar equipped vehicles in the area that are priced lower? Usually they will negotiate to keep you from going somewhere else.

Another thing to look into is pre approved financing. I went to a local credit union in my area and got approved at 6.5%. When I got to the dealer they wanted me to use their financing but the lowest rate they could come back to me with was 8.99% and they even had to admit it was in my best interest to use that financing.

The salesman went through the KBB with me online. Item by item and he came up with aretail dealer price of $27K. He said, "I'm already under that price."

They most likely gave whoever traded $20K for it. $20-22K in trade and sell for $26,500. He can do much better on my price.

You working way to hard. Make them work for it. Walk in an hour before you have a scheduled appointment and tell them they have fifteen minutes to come up with your numbers. They do this for a living, so that's plenty of time for them.

Better yet, ask them to email you the numbers.

Keep looking and you will find what you want. I pulled a kbb and its weird because I am not sure what options they put in there but mine came up at 25xxx.

Its a good thing you stuck to your guns though and left and didnt just settle.
