Thanks guys. I have no regrets in taking a pass as hard as it was. One of my friends thinks he will call me Monday morning with a NEW price. Two more think I did right and will find what I want at the right price.

FYI Here are the specs on the truck in question.

2007 F150 Supercrew Lariat 4X4, 5.4L FFV
20,707 miles
Leather/cruise, tilt wheel, cruise and stereo controls on steering wheel
Power driver and passenger seats with memory/heated
bed liner
Off White or White Chocolate exterior
MP3/Multi CD disc changer
Tinted glass
Premium sound
18" alloy wheels

I come up with $27,000 for my zip code. His final offer is $26,500. My starting offer was $21,900. I just do not believe they allowed more than $20-$21K trade on that truck.

When I call him tomorrow morning to tell him we decided against the truck I will first tell him that KBB's excellent trade price is $21,325. I will go to $22,800. If not sell it to someone else.

Way too much! You could get a new one almost for that.

Way too much. He is yanking your chain, looking to maximize his profit.

Just tell him your number, and let him decide. I guarantee you there is another truck out there for you! For the price he is asking, you may be close to purchasing a new one. Here is the window sticker for that truck is you want to take a look.

With a $40k MSRP, someone could have gotten $12k off during summer 2007 for it new. Keep to your $22k price. Otherwise, find another. There are only about 500k F-150s sold every year.

How far are you willing to drive?
Option 1
Option 2

Also, check out Craig's List.

I really do appreciate all of your input here. It gives me confidence that I am on the right track with my shopping so far. I am sticking to my price. I did not answer his email of yesterday yet if I even do. I thought about it but I continue to shop. Who knows...I may find one better, newer, lower miles for the same or slightly more and be glad I turned him down.

Definitely stick to your guns. You can and will find one for less.

Do a little more research. Autotrader.com, craigslist, carmax.com etc... Find a list of similar vehicles within an acceptable driving distance from you. I drove 2 hrs to get my truck.

Once you do this you will more than likely have a list of 5 or more vehicles that are similar to the one you looked at, mileage etc... Then email them back and say that you like the truck and would like to make a deal if you can agree on a suitable price, but tell them that you have "X" number of other trucks in the area at different lots that are at the price you want.

Also I know its nice to have the newest one but dont be afraid of the 06's Its the same truck, and you can still find a ton with really low mileage. Like I said before my friend bought his for 16k, and I got my FX4 loaded with goodies for 22k.

Just keep doing what your doing. It took me about 3 months to find the one for me in my price range and milage. Did just like you went and tested a few that I liked but they wanted to much and didnt want to deal. Finally got my '06 XLT with leather, 6 disc, blah, blah and 14k miles for $15K. That was 7 months ago.

I think like you said they gave someone to much on the trade in, so they want to make thier money back.

This one is a better value. It was manufactured later than the one your looking at, and stickered at $44k back in 11/2006. It does have 56k miles, but that is good miles for 2+ years. current bid is @22k.

Make sure you reply to that dealer and exit with a number that you will take that truck at. I doubt he will take it, but you don't know if you don't ask.

The second is a better value.

The first stickered at 40k back in 12/2005
The second stickered at 42k back in 9/2006

This one is an exceptional value, almost too good to be true. Back in August of 2006 the window sticker was 42.5k. The current bid is 17k, with a buy it now for 19K.

Both seemed to be priced at or near every dollar they are worth, considering milage.
