Why a 460 ??? It would eat up any of these 5.4's in a NY minute. Are you guys really serious when you say your Triton will smoke a 460 ? The 460 is a far superior designed engine in many many ways. My buddies SuperCrew only gets 13-14 empty, 8-9 when towing a boat. If he's gunna get that crappy of mpg's, then he might as well have some torque (one of the things that's missing from these anemic 5.4's)!!! No smog troubles out here.

04S&BFX4 is right on the $$$, it takes nothing to get 500+HP outta the tried and true 460 !!! And they'll have WAY more torgue than ANY 5.4 could dream off. We're very very well versed in the 460 arena 04S&BFX4. MY buddies n/a engine is knocking on a real 800HP, and I'm running 1100 with a little help from an 8-71; both production FORD 460 blocks .

This isn't something we're doing tomorrow, but the truck has 140K on it. It runs fine for now (except lacking power !!!), but someday it won't, and when that day comes

Currently I have a turbo charged 393 SBF in my 92 Mustang, however I am buidling a 545 big block to replace it. The shortblock is done, I am waiting on the heads to come out. I am buying a set of the new Kaase "Boss 9" head. These mod motrs are good, however there arent any comparisons between that and a big block.

Good Luck with the swap, oh yeah what year Screw?

Yes the motor will fit, but unless you're an electrical genius, good luck getting the wiring right. And by wiring, I mean everything inside your truck (gauges, PATS system, etc).

wiring wont be that bad, you can forget all your modern saftey devices working unless you run a totally seperate system for the ignition, and kept everything else stock inside the truck

It would be a nightmare to get everything going....

Stock for stock, should murder a 5four though.
When I was stock (5.4, 3.73s, reg cab) Im pretty sure I would have gotten my doors blown off my a buddies reg. cab F250 w/ the 460...

That is 70's technology my friend, using todays technology a mild 460 can produce well over 500 hp and ftlbs of torque. Why do you think ford engine builders love the big block.....look at what Jon Kaase has done with them in the Engine Masters Challenge.

Your right on fuel mileage though
SAE gross vs. SAE net. Stock for stock, 5.4L > 460ci.

Good news, the 460 is almost the identical in height and width. The 460 is 3" londer, which shouldn't present any troubles. Now checking into swapping out a A4OD with one from a 460 powered truck. That'll solve connecting the 460 to the trany. Oil pan shouldn't be hard at all. Oil filter and PS pump are in similar locations.

It can be done but it's much easier if you go carburated. We just put a built 400m/C6 in my friends 97 xcab 4x4. The C6 bolts up to the stock t-case with the stock crossmembers. The motor mount's are a combination of 78 and 97 and work good. The headers for a 78-79 bronco fit better in the 97 than they did in the bronco (plenty of clearance ) It took a couple hours to have it charging correctly and all the gauges working but it was worth it. You should see the look on peoples faces after you smoke there 5.0 GT's with a xcab f150. It helps putting down 432 HP 496TQ at the wheels . Everything has held up well so far but the 3.73 gear 9 inch and dana 44 from the 78 bronco are scheduled for transplant when the factory 97 axles let go. To answer your question none of the wiring will match up and everything else has to be massaged/fabricated. If you are not very mechanically inclined I'd say keep the 4.6L.

This is a copy from another post but does pertain. When the 400 lets go AGAIN I'll be putting one of my 460's in the hole. 04s&bfx4 SHUSH about the BOSS 9 . I'm not on the list just yet and the more people who know will just put me farther down it. Have you seen the dyno #'s from his test mule compared against the P51's?

For the price of adding a Roush charger on you 5.4 You would have to have 2 of them to match the power/TORQUE of a equally financed BBF!

I was going to swap out a 302 for a 460 but when I had to move a bare 460 block around I swear it weigh more than my complete 302 Don't even asked about the 460 crank

I decided to keep the 302 and just to spray 275hp of nitrous for that big block power.

If you going with the 460 combo maybe stronger front springs are needed??

Post some pic's if you do

The 460 weighs exactly 260 LBS more than a 302 IIRC.
