460 in a SuperCrew ????

Looking under the hood, it seems as though a 460 could possibly fit. Has anyone here tried, or completed such a swap ???

Sure it will fit but why do you want a "old school" big block? A 5.4 is very much a modern day hot rod engine with plenty of build options plus the knowledge around here is free and plentiful.

Also, if you live in an area with the smog ****'s, putting an older engine in a new body/frame is a big no-no.

Emission control testing that requires your vehicle to be tested annually for compliance.

You would be much, much better off adding a supercharger to the oem engine.

I have one of those 460 motors in a different vehicle and I think it would be awesome to put that in a F150. I have no idea if it would fit, but if it would; it sure would get up and go! Forget the prius drivers, let them save the gas...

A stock 460 probably has less power and gets worse fuel economy. Those old trucks with 460's didn't weigh 6000 pounds like today's trucks, which made them seem quick.

i have an 84 f100 8 foot bed with a 429 that i can drive on the street everyday. i would be glad to run all over your supercharged 5.4. I have an 07 with a supercharger that is at Troyers right now having the blower ported and retuned, last time it left his shop it had 392/443 and still cant keep up with the 84. gas mileage around town is pretty much the same if i dont put my foot in either. on the highway the 07 has it beat by about 2.5 miles to the gallon. from a dead or up to a 70 mph roll the 5.4 just wont do it, its comical because my wife loves the 07 but just doesnt understand how the old truck does it. its cool listening to a big block making 7,000 rpm shifts and passing a supercharged vehicle with all muscle. and the 84 with slicks runs 12.10s to 12.30s all day with a little wheelspin out the gate 3.50 gears with half tank of fuel. if interested let me know i love beating supercharged 5.4 specially the whipple and kenn bell. NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT

There in no replacement for displacement. A 460 would out perform a 5.4 anyday of the week. Any fuel injected vehicle will get better fuel milage, but if you are looking at putting a bigblock in a vehicle obviously you dont give a sh*t about fuel mileage. Not to mention the low end torque. Why do you think tractor pulls and monster trucks use bigblocks instead of a supercharged 5.4......no comparison.

For the sawp though, sure the width wouldnt be a factor but you have to think about the crossmember and the mounts. Will they line up...I dont know. If you do plan on doing this swap please document it and keep us updated, I personally would love to see it, hell if you lived near colorado springs, co I would help you myself.

If you do build this motor, go through DSC motorsport and get yourself a set of D0VE heads. This is a great factory performance head and they are cheap. Sure they dont compar flow wise to the Blue Thunders or Trick Flows but unless you want to drop 3k in heads alone D0VE would be the way to go.

Best of Luck.

I cant believe you said that. The Stock 04-08 5.4L 3v comes with 300hp and 365ftlbs of torque. Most 70's model 460's came with 365hp and 425ftlbs of torque. That is 70's technology my friend, using todays technology a mild 460 can produce well over 500 hp and ftlbs of torque. Why do you think ford engine builders love the big block.....look at what Jon Kaase has done with them in the Engine Masters Challenge.

Your right on fuel mileage though
