Hey-

Just wanted to say hey...instead of lurking. My Jeep got stolen last week and I had to find a new vehicle basically by next Wednesday (11/14). I came across a 2004 Lariat Screw 4x4 and it caught my eye (other than it being white- blah). I started doing some research...which led me here. It's only got 30k and they are asking $23k. I figure by the time I get my insurance check...I can knock that down and have a fairly nice truck for cheap. However, after reading some of the articles on the ***** plugs...I'm not sure I still want to go through with this. Truth be told...I've always been a DC guy...I figured it was time to change.

I would'nt worry about the plugs as much as I would the price of that truck. You are not that crazy about the color already and I think the price is a little high. Sometimes all the info here is overwhelming. All that said, welcome to the site.

Ha- I'm glad you chimed in...I thought the price was good (it blue booked at $26 something). It's not that I don't like white...it's just a biotch to clean. I've had one white car and my jeep was black...I didn't look forward to washing either. What do you think is a good starting point for negotiating on a truck like that?

Depends on if it's a private owner or a dealer. If it's a dealer, than go find one you really like. If it's a private owner, i'd start around $20,500 and see what happens. Depends on his age also. IMO...

If you're lookin for a ruck though, ford it definately the way to go. And this forum is great.

Well I've decided to go ahead and get that screw (on Thursday). There are no other lariats in the area...and I really like the idea of having leather again...sweet sweet heated leather. I think I'm going to blow the insurance check on the basic 6" fabtech lift, wheels (Thinking 18" Helo Big Dogs or Maxx 6's), and of course tires (Probably Nitto's but I'm not sold on them). I should be responsible and put the money as a down payment on the truck...but what fun would that be. I'm going to see if I can find a place to do the lift before I commit though. It was a biotch to find someone to do my Jeep. If I only had a garage.
Are you guys running your chrome wheels through the winter? I'd like to get chrome instead of black/polished...but I think Indiana uses more salt then then the rest of the U.S. combined.

I'm in south east lower Michigan and we use a ton of salt also. I will probably end up running my rims during the winter even though I don't want to (again). I've got MTs on there right now, but would love to get ATs and put them on the FX4 rims that came with the ruck originally.

If you do run them, you will need to keep up on them pretty good, especially around our area or they will pit. But, I would wash the truck about once a week and that worked out pretty well last winter.

Congrats on your new vehicle and welcome to the forum. I think you'll love your new truck.

Man how the hell are you guys finding these Lariats so cheap?! I've looked everywhere around here. I was almost tempted to get an XLT and save some cash. However, I'm going out there tonight to see what the final dollar will be. I've already started negotiations with Josh on my lift and tires.

Pulled the trigger...I am now the owner of a 2004 Lariat Screw 4x4. Just waiting on Josh to send the email with my lift/wheels/tires pricing. The only bad thing is the dealer sprayed some horrible air freshener in it when they pulled the stickers. Bleh- anyone know how to eliminate odors...?
