Has anybody lowered their FX4? I'm looking to lower mine.

If you have can you post details and pics if you have them?

Thanks,

Thanks for the response.

I did some searches and found some 4x4's that have been lowered. I was wondering specifically about the FX4 since it seems to have difference suspension components from the 4x4's (hope that made sense).

I went today to JDM Engineering and after speaking with one of their techs, he said they were going to do more research to find out the specifics.

i think/thought that the 4x4 and FX4 have the same mechanical pieces except the FX4 has off road tuned shocks, skid plates, 18" wheels and standard shift on fly and a bunch of cosmetic crap (according to the 08 ford f150 book). they should be mechanically identical. i think in the 04-present forum there was a recent thread about the difference of a xlt 4x4 and fx4 model

Your suspension is the same as any of the 4x4's. Look at the specs. on Ford.com. Tuned shocks, whatever that means. Should be easy enough to lower, but all due respect, why lower a 4x4? Just the looks or better handling?

Both the looks and handling. I wanted the 4x4 for when it snows here in NJ.

The truck won't be used off-road at all.

There are several members who have lowered a 4x4 or an FX4. There are complete kits to lower your truck such as Roush, DJM, Belltech, etc. Or you could piece together parts to get the drop you want. For the front on a 4x4 you can use 2wd shocks to get a 2" drop, 2" or 3" drop springs, and DJM lower control arms for a 2.5" or 3.5" drop. For the rear you can use new or rearched leafs for 3" drop, drop shackles for 2" or a flip kit for up to 6". On 4x4's there is a 2" block in the rear you can remove also.

I removed my rear blocks and plan to install a roush 2/3" drop kit someday.

Yeah, I had already noticed that on the web site. Sounds like a load to me. Hence, the 'whatever that means' comment Gotta say, they look pretty good lowered. I love having the 4x4 in winter. When I head to Tahoe or anywhere in the Sierra, not putting chains or cables on is priceless.

If I remember right, the FX4's use Bilstein offroad shocks. I'm not positive though and that might have been the previous generation.

Wouldn't you think that if they were Bilsteins Ford would be saying so? Pretty well known name to tout, I'd think.

Whatever "brand" of the Ford shocks on any pickup, they are specified by Ford, not that brand. For example, the 02-03 OEM "Rancho" shocks sucked so bad that any of Rancho's aftermarket shocks were better.
