2004 - 2007 A/C Problems

O.K. I know this has probably been talked to death, but how is everyone really doing with their air conditioning? I currently have a '97 F150 4x4 SC Lariet with great A/C, still running good at 100K (in New Mexico). But I must admit I really am impressed with the new F150's and currently in the market for one, FX4 in particular (for the stiffer ride). However, being in the southwest, A/C is a must and I've heard a lot of negative opinions about it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

My AC works fine and it has been over 90 degrees with a heat index reaching 100 degrees for the past week here.

AC on my '04 is adequate. I've read about an oring that goes bad causing a leak. I will be getting it checked out. That being said, I've had it at the Colorado river when it was 117 out and as long as I used the remote start, we were able to stay comfortable. My '97 kept us cold though.

I had an 07 for an extended test drive, and the one thing I noticed was the AC is not near as cold as my 02. It was about 95*, drove it for about 40 minutes, and had to keep it on the lowest temperature/highest fan setting/recirc and it never got cold enough to have to turn it down. On my 02, after about 3 minutes on high, you have to turn the fan to the 1 or 2 setting otherwise you will freeze.

Buddy the ac's in these trucks SUCK! I had an 04 Lariat, ac gets cool, but not cold. It is an on going issue with Ford. After many trips to the dealer their conclusion was that these ac's are not meant to get cold, just cool the cab. I Now have a 2007 FX2 & it's the same issue ac cools, but does not get cold. I'm in Miami where it's super steamy in the summer time, so I feel it. Good Luck!!

I leave either my sunroof or rear windo cracked about an inch, and the AC works great. It seems to let the hot air out and cools faster. It does not really get hot here in Charlotte at least compared to AZ where I came from, but I don't have any problems.

The A/C on my 2007 FX4 is much better than the A/C on my 2005 FX4. Neither of them is as cold as my '97 SCab.

If the ride in the FX4 is too stiff for you, lower your tire pressure to the Ford recommended 35 psi. Every dealer I've been to pumps the tires up to 42+ psi, which allows the truck to really get-up-n-go, but it does make for a rough ride.

I just had my first glitch with my 2007. The radio volume **** is inop. At least I have steering wheel volume controls to use until I can get it back into the dealer to be R2'd.

The A/C on my 2005 F150 is weak. I added some R13 but that didnt help much.

05 Lariat Screw

I just bought an 05 and have noticed a couple of issues.

1. The unit does not cool as well as my last truck. But the inside volume is huge compared to it.

2. My truck will occassionally throw out hot air(for ~2-4min) when I first the truck in the drive way and let it idle. I am getting an appointment at the dealer before the warranty runs out.

Mine gets plenty cool and stays that way even around 70-72 in the thermostat control.

I rarely go below that, but it certainly gets colder when I do

At 290 lbs I need a more powerful A/C. The AC on my 745i seems just as weak but the AC in my GFs 2007 freezes me out.

Yeah, same here. 2007 FX2 and the A/C on these things are horrible. With temperatures in the truck around 130 when sitting in the sun all day at work it's a miserable drive home. It doesn't help that outside the temperature is about 110 too, maybe 117 at the hottest. I wish there was such thing as an A/C upgrade kit lol.

Another vote for ac SUCKS!!!!
Has anyone tried this stuff called perma frost that you add to you ac system. It sure does sound tempting if it works like advertised.

It's not as good as it should be thats for sure! I have noticed that since I've limo'd my door windows it help ALOT! Also I have to keep it MAX all the time after about 10 minutes or so of driving I can turn the fan down a notch or two and be comfy. Also closing the far vent by the passenger door helps a bit to.
