I have a call into the local dealer.

EDIT:Couldn't get in till Monday....have to wait and see
I got it back from the dealer today. They said it was low on refrigerant. They evacuated the system and also leak tested it.

It did feel cooler on the ride back to work, but I will let you know in a week or two if it cured the ac issue.

2007 FX4 AC not cold

I recently bought a 2007 FX4, and this is my first ford vehicle. I had a 2000 Silverado and the first thing I noticed was that the Ford A/C was not as cold. The truck had a minor window molding repair that needed fixed and I mentioned to dealer service what I thought about the A/C, how it was cool, but took about 1/2 hour until I felt it was cold. They put it on some machine (i think they mentioned oasis?) and it read that the pressure in the lines was too high. They drained and readded freon. On the ride back to work though, I still feel as though the A/C is the same cool, not cold temperature. Ill drive it for a week and see if anything changes and repost.

But I was wondering, what should the temperature be coming out of the vents? Has anyone had theirs tested and if so, could you post your temperatures? A friend of mine who is a mechanic said he thought it should be about 40 degrees.

Mine will....38 deg to be exact. When my 05 was new it wasn't cold but they found the common o-ring leak behind the compressor clutch. After that repair it works great. Now if it sits in the sun all day in south Texas then you have to drive a few minutes (5 or so) and then its ice city! Biggest two things to do are window tint and a sunshade in the windshield while at work. I have checked it with two different a/c thermometers and it will pull it down to 38 degrees at the vents on a 100 degree day. Guess I'm lucky.

On my 02 I started it up after it's been sitting in the sun for 4 hours and the outside temp was above 90 degrees and inside the cab was over 100. I just let it idle for 2 songs on the radio and with the temp gage stuck in the vent it showed 58 degrees.

58 while idleing is good.. drive it with the temp probe and your going to be ALOT colder

I live in the Houston area so I deal with heat and high humidity. Typically when I

come out from work the temperature in the truck is 125+ during the hot months. I usually open the two front windows and the rear slider for about two blocks to get the hot air out of the truck. The best I have gotten out of the vents is about 43 degrees. My wife's old Mercury Grand Marquis ('87) would regularly blow out of the vents at about 38 degrees. My truck will not freeze you out but it does alright. I still need to get a inner windshield shade though. These temperatures were all taken with the thermometer in the center vent closest to the driver.

AC update

I bought a thermometer for checking the temperature of the AC, the coldest I saw was at idle, on low, on recirc, and it was 45 degrees.

My wife's Saturn Vue was going as low as 37 degrees.

Took it to the dealership, mentioned this, they checked it and came back with readings of 45 degrees at idle, and 50 degrees at 1500RPM.

they said "that is normal, and if it were any cooler, <somepart> would freeze because it was too cold"

I think that is such BS, how does the saturn get so low then?

--- UPDATE ---
I got a rental vehicle today from Enterprise, an 08 Silverado, the AC on this thing is so cold, I cant take it. It is even colder than the Saturn's 37 degrees. ANd it doesnt take 20 minutes to get cold, less than 1 minute and it freezes you out.

How can a Silverado AC system be so much superior to a Fords?

This is another example of things I just can't understand: they've been putting AC systems on cars for over 50 years now - they all work on the exact same principles (pretty simple actually) - how they heck can they screw it up?

i was thinking that my old 02 f150 did feel colder faster then my 07...but i was thinking that i could be that my 07 now has rear ac vents...thats 2 more holes to blow air out of...so i guess i kind of have a theory that most prior owners of other f150s and other vehicles...is the newer f150 one with a split bench and rear ac vents....it could be that the new back vents are robbing some of the coldness that could be coming out the front...i would guess that ford has the same fan in the ac for a reg cab and supercab...add two more holes to the mix air will move free-er? (i guess thats a word) and faster out of the plentum and the air is not staying over the coils as long and not getting as cold.

Thumbs up

My new '07 Screw gets plenty cold with auto set at 60 to start and then I have to turn up temp as it is too cold. August in KS had 90 degree temps everyday.

I have noticed that my '07 is not as cold as my '02 Screw was...but I had tint in all 4 side windows. I plan to tint my front sides and expect a change. I have noticed on days that the truck has been parked in the sun for hours that if I open the windows for a few minutes it makes a huge difference.
