New to Supercrew

Just purchased a 2007 Supercrew. It is replacing a 1986 Supercab. The '86 is old enough to drink legally. Ended working with a local dealer. Anyway, I 'm looking at bed liners and a cover. I have a friend with a king ranch and he has a http://www.rolltopcover.com/. It's his third on as many pickups.

Oh well, I've 86 miles on it now. What do you think the odds are that it will last 21 years?

Not too bad ... I pray my truck would last that long. I'm sure if you take care of it like your last one and don't have anything turn out to be a lemon part it'll take good care of you as well.

Congrats on the new truck!

My '07 Screw is also my first Super Crew F150. My previous F150 was an '04 STX with an A.R.E. tonneau cover and LINE-X spray-in liner. I would have kept the tonneau cover and had it repainted to match my '07 but the bed is a different length. I do have a new A.R.E. on order.

I would expect nothing but a hard cover to last 20 years. Any soft cover will last 2-10 years depending on how you take care of it. 20 would be tough. At least they are cheap enough to buy 2-3 over 20 years compared to a $1000 hard cover. The rolling covers haven't been around 20 years yet. There's always the Undercover too, but it hasn't been around long either.

I'd consider how you use your truck bed when picking what kind of cover you want. Soft rollup vs. hard fixed have distinct differences.

If you have any cover and mostly keep it closed, you won't beat a drop in liner. More durable than any spray in, but slicker. A cover eliminates the largest complaint about them, the trapped water/rust. Plus, they cost about $125 vs. $400.

BTW, are Supercrew's beds still made from composite materials vs. the metal longer beds? My 2003 has composite bed, almost like fiberglass. The bed will never rust!

Have you checked out the undercover tonneau? I have one and i really like it. It is light and comes off very easy. I also stand on it when needed.

I almost bought a roll top cover but couldn't find one that I liked that did not require a water drain hose. Just didn't give me a warm and fuzzy.

I've used Fold-A-Cover hard tonneau on my last few F-150's. Darn near 100% water tight. Being about 1/2 inch aluminum composite, it's pretty tough & burgler secure. Not to mention, I can fold it up or remove it if I need to haul anything big. I'll probably end up replacing the seals in 10 years, but the tonneau itself will probably last 20.

The Rolltop's seem to be a nice cover. I have a Pace Edward's Jackrabbit that I have had over 3 yrs. and is holding up pretty well other than a few leaks where it meet's the tailgate. By the way congrat's on the new truck!

I've never heard of an F150 with a composite bed..?? My '05 Screw sure has a metal bed. Then I got Line-X..

Truly, the only composite bed I can think of is on the Ridgeline, there may be others.. but on an F150??

The -outer-bed panels are composite on 2001-2004 (heritage) SCrews. The inner bed and bed floor are steel (so is the tailgate).

I have been looking for a bed cover and so far I like the Roll-N-Lock with the cargo manager the most.

Thanks for that info!

I guess I've not paid attention to the Screws (well, the beds).. Any Idea how they hold up over time?

Fold-a-cover

I bought my truck used and it came with the Fold-A-Cover. I really like it. The cover had the newer style locking mechanisms. The aluminum material is easy to fold back. The cover is water tight so far and I feel like it protects my stuff from theft and the weather very well.

The odds of the truck lasting 21 years is good. The odds of you keeping that long? Ford trucks just keep getting better and better.
