overhead console no worky

Anyone else here ever had trouble with their overhead console that has the temperature/compass display? Mine has been off and on lately, and usually I can get it to work by tinkering with the select button, but today it quit working all together, and just now out of the blue started working again. I've checked my ground wires and hot wires and all are good along with the fuse. Just curious if I was the only one experiencing this problem. Seems like none of the salvage yards I have called have any overhead consoles.

Funny - I just read this - and I've been having all sorts of problems lately with mine too. I thought it was just too hot (??) in my truck and that's why it wasn't working........but then I started pushing on the spot just behind the select button and it would come on, then when I released - it would go off. I figured a loose wire somewhere in there.

Well, needless to say I got good and pizzed at it and ended up hitting it with the outside of my hand - IT WORKS NOW!!!!

HAAHHAHAHA!!!!

Guess sometime I'll have to tear into it and see what's going on, but it sounds like yours is doing the exact same thing.......let me know how you get your fixed.

Probably a loose conenctor. Take the cover off the console and look around.

Smile no worky overhead

Over $300.00 for new one. It is a very easy fix. Mine did same thing. Take down overhaed light fixture. Get soldier gun and hit each of the larger components on the electrical board. You may not need any more soldier only heat. Do not leave on too long, only 5 seconds on each conection. Or you can go to www.fixanything.com and buy directions.

Cool

Remove the circuit board and replace the $0.80 resister, it will be obvious which what it is, it looks like it is burnt on the ends, then it will work great. Same thing happened to my power locks and windows, just pull the circuit board from under the dash and replace the cheap resister. Ford dealer wanted over $400.00 to repair for me. What a joke.

and just FYI they sell the console itself, usually with a working circuit board on ebay for 50-75 bucks

I'll sell ya mine for $20. Pulled it off a junker, so no promises its going to work.

I planned to install it but that would require moving my sun visors, etc.

On SCREW with overhead console and sunroof it pulls down. It is held up by metal clips. Take a rigid putty knife and slide in and pull down. It will come down from the headliner. Pull rest of way down. Do not use large screwdriver to pry,it may crack console
