[relative noob question] So the coil packs are still a somewhat common failure?[/relative noob question]

I'd have to say yes. My '01 SCrew is about to hit 98k and the only problems I've had were a pair of coil packs, one at 68k and one at 94k.

I have 135,361 on my 2001. 5.4 still runs strong, the only problem (not really) was a battery at 123,000. First set of goodyears all the way to 103,666 with rotation and pressure check at every oil change (3,000 miles). After K&N was installed the mass airflow sensor got gummed up, but no biggie!

105,000 on my 01 and still on stock COPs and plugs. No major problems, just normal wear and tear.
