Changes over the years

I recently traded my 03 Supercrew for an 06 Lariat Supercrew and what I noticed is how Ford has cut back on the little things that I didnt miss until they were gone.
My 2003 had the following that the new 06 model doesn't
1. height adjustable shoulder belts, especially if you have young kids or a short wife.
2. Rear map/reading light gone, my kids use to read books on long trips and now they cannot at night.
3. RDS system on the radio, I enjoyed being told the station name and song playing.
4. rear seat storage, my 03 the seats would fold down as oposed to up and had two storage compartment behind the seat, great for tools and such.

While all of these are small items to complain about, for the money spent and upgrading from an XLT supercrew to a loaded Lariat I would have expected them.

I spent several years working in automotive up in Detroit. Based on the program I worked on, I think the standard practice was to fully load the first year of a new model and then lower content every year after. Makes for an interesting choice; buy the brand new model year and get the nicest materials, most options, etc or buy the later later model years and avoid all the problems that seem to show up on the new model....

Your right mine does too, I meant the rear sholuder belts are not adjusting which makes it difficult for short kids, the belt comes across about chin and ear level rather then low on the shoulder like it should.

Other things I have noticed since owning the new model, the under hood light has been deleated, not that I needed it just an observation and the tint strip on the front windshield is not on the new models, I really missed that driving into the sun, I just have to visit a tint shop and have one put on.

A few other things I've noticed looking at the new trucks:

- black pebble plastic door handles and mirrors, 01-03 were painted body color
- grey plastic fender flares on FX4 instead of body color

I'm still on the fence over these new trucks. I'd like to upgrade from my 02, but I just don't get that "gotta have it" feeling. I just don't see it as a major upgrade. I also don't like the door pillar blind spot.

Welfare - any other comparisons you can make going from 03 to 06? Handling, power, interior comfort? Thanks,

Which HU did you get with your Lariat. My '06 Lariat has RDS for the AM & FM side. Same config parameters, for traffic alerts, etc.
The built in Sirius has a RDS function by the nature of the sysem.

The storage area, I do miss minefrom my '10, but you can get an underseat storage compartment that will somewhat make up for the missing ones behind the seat. It is in the Ford Accy catalog ( just like the post above, remove it and make you pay for it in addition to the base truck )

The power and ride is far better, the seats are not compared to my 03, I have the Lariat with the center console, legroom is lacking, Rear seat comfort and leg room is better the the last.

As to the radio I don't have the Sirius but I do have the 6 disc in dash so that could be why I don't have RDS but 3 years ago none came with Sirrius and it had RDS

Yep. My 2004 XLT has all of the items on the list except for the Radio and the storage option though it came with the overhead rail system.

I mostly keep a portion of the back seat flipped up for my dog.

Man, I can't second that on the underhood light. Hell even my '02 Jeep Wrangler which has hardly no creature comforts whatsoever has an underhood light. It's little things, but annoying none the less. Other than that, seems to be a quality truck though.

not only that, there are no footwell lights. Not sure about Lariats, but I went from XLT to XLT. My 98 XLT had clear AND red lights on the inside of the door. The clear lights lighting up the cabin and the red lights for when the door was open at night
\

The 04 XLT Crew doent have those. Just overhead lights.
