Bulletin from Ford

Just received a Tech Bulletin from FORD in the mail warning me about sticking with the scheduled maintenance on the front tie rod ends. They should be inspected at 20,000 km intervals for any wear. It went on further to say that I should keep this in the glove box of my truck to show to the dealer next time it is in for service. If truck is still under warranty or an extended warranty was purchased, no charge. Otherwise.............

Has anyone else received this letter? This is not a recall notice. I am wondering if this is a leadup to a recall?

I just had the brakes done at 42,000 km and had the lower ball joints replaced. The tie rods were OK at that time.

it's about time. these things have been snapping off without notice ever since they changed to that body style. Ford knows they have had a problem with those for quite awhile. i have heard of a couple of guys breaking while they were driving. one poor guy was coming off the highway and it broke on the off ramp. ended up in the ditch. lucky for him and others it wasn't at 60mph. my brothers supercab tie rod end broke in his driveway. these things break without notice, even if you check them they show no sign of wear but then they just snap off. i'm having mine checked on my next oil change and if they don't replace them before my warranty is out i plan on changing to new ones myself. it's not worth a love ones life for a $20-$30 part.

i had wrote a compliant letter to Ford after owning my truck for 3 weeks about the paint on my roof. i mentioned that in the letter about those tie tod ends. i was hoping that they had upgraded those otherwise, if something happens to me or anyone from my family, the next letter might be from my lawyer. they never mentioned it at all when i talked to the Ford rep. go figure. does anyone know if they changed anything in the 2003 pickups or are they the same?

talked to my dealer this morning. all the letter states is that you should check your tie rod ends every 20000km. nothing about them replacing them or anything about any type of recall at this time.

if you have your truck regularly serviced at a Ford dealer they check them everytime your in there. so they are not sending those owners any letter. this items is covered on the regular 3 year / 60000km which we have in Canada. not sure if the extended warranty covers those or not. either way, when my intital warranty runs out i plan on replacing mine.

Interesting that only the Canadian folks recieved this letter. Could this be mandated by the Canadian Govt' to submit this letter to owners? Anyone have any additional information on this matter?
