Tie Rods

This is my first post ever! Just became member last night after having been a "guest" on this site many times in the past month.

Last night I was trying to find information from the posts about a steering/vibration issue on my '01 Expedition. Found a link from you all to TSB site. Tie Rods come up alot in the Ford TSB's for the Expy and F-Series, although there is one dated March 31, 2003 #03610 that says ". . .CANADA VEHICLES ONLY".

I have an appointment for Thursday at the Ford dealer for service and will ask him about this issue and post more info. if I get any from them. I wonder if it could have anything to do with the steering noise and vibration problem I've been having. It's not the tires as I've had them balanced, indexed, etc. with the Hunter 9700 twice in the past week. (BTW: only 6700 miles on vehicle!)

Anyway, that's my first post. Thank you to all of you out there for the great information you share and add to this site.

Re-read the letter I was sent, and if you bought the extended warranty, then you are still covered after the initial 3 year, 60,000 km

Post Idler Arm

Dealer replaced idler arm on my '01 Expedition. Tie rods checked out okay. Ofcourse, I only have 6700 miles on it! There's definitely less movement in the steering wheel although I need to test it on the freeway at 60+mph to see if it cured the vibration issue.

My Service Advisor did not really know about the Canadian customer advisory letter. He wasn't aware of any letters sent to his customers in L.A. regarding the tie rod issue. However, there are the TSB's so if your under warranty, it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have your front end checked if you feel or hear anything that doesn't seem right.

I think I'll go out on the freeway now and see if traffic will allow me to get past 60 to test the new idler arm.

The proper way to spell Canada:

C eh?, N eh?, D eh?

I posted a copy of that leter from ford here in the suspension post,- leter from ford, glad I dumped my 2002 f-150, I also have stated how much I loved this truck, loved to see it go back.

I have since recoverd and I'm not as Anti Ford as I used to be, driving a 2001 F-350 power stroke that is so excellant.

Ram is up for sale, tucked away in a nice garage. My dad gave me to good of a deal on the f-350 to pass up.
I still like the dodge ram and it would be my chioce over a f-150, but truck for truck it can't beat 2001 f-350, 7.3 power stroke with only 30,000 km on it.

Ford vs Dodge aside, a 1 ton diesel is just going to be longer lived whomever makes it.

Just try not to pi$$ off your neighbours by firing that thing up at 5am.

Enjoy!

Hi, FamilyMan. It's true, only 6700 miles and yes, it's my only car! However, my office is only a block away from home, so I have no commute. I guess I am the proverbial "Little Old Lady from Pasadena", with some exceptions. I don't live in Pasadena, not that old and it's a "shiny green superstock Ford" in my garage!

Spoke with Mike Troyer on Wednesday (for over an hour) and my Superchip 9100 was shipped out yesterday. Will post more about this in the "chip forum" once it's installed.

My tie rods checked out fine at the dealer, but they did replace my idler arm. Do any of you know if a front wheel alignment is necessary after replacing an idler arm?

Thanks,
DeeAnna

not sure if a alignment is needed. but if it was needed then they should have done it after replacing the part... call and ask them.
