Decent price on 2004 Screw?
Looked at a 2004 Lariat Screw last night. It has 4X4, offroad package, 3.73s, leather buckets, center console, sunroof, 6-disc changer, skid plates, etc, etc.
Sticker was $39,490. I got them down to $36,132, plus a $2,000 rebate and a spray in bedliner.
Does this sound decent? I know everything varies with options and such, but I don't know what invoice is on a Lariat.
Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks.

Holy Crap!
These trucks are getting way too expensive..
Seems like that keep steadily creeping a few thousand with the new models. Pretty soon we will be paying $50k for a single cab XL with a 6 banger!

You should be at dealer invoice as listed on Edmunds or KBB, minus the rebates. Texas is the largest truck buying state for all brands, and it is very competitive. Tell the dealer you can pick up a similar Dodge for $11k off MSRP and see what they say. The price you listed is about $1000 too high.
Best price on a 2004 F-150
Get the dealer invoice off of the net, find the truck you want to deal on on-site at the dealers, purchase a magazine that has all options, packages, etc., so you know the wholesale & retail prices, then go directly to the fleet department (the last five days of the month - they are hungry and will deal with you no questions asked). Tell them that you want half the dealer holdback - worth about $1000. You will get it all and no hassles. I have been buying fleet since I was 18 years old (60 this year) and you will save thousands. Remember you are buying wholesale to wholesale -- so if you have a trade in -- you will get the low wholesale price (better to sell it yourself in most cases). If one dealer won't deal with you, go to another. I can deal with any of the Ford dealers in this area. Be smart and have all your ducks in order.
You can beat the price you quoted by thousands. Once you buy this way you will never work with a high pressure salesperson again. I sold Ford and Toyota vehicles once in my life so I know how the individual retail sales persons will try to rip you as much as possible.
Good Luck

Thanks, y'all. I did the deal last night. I did some digging and figured that the extra effort and frustration of being a "pressure buyer" wasn't worth the grand or so I'd save. The dealership was really easy to work with, very quiet and "shop at your own pace." It was really refreshing after the last two truck buying expereinces I had. I guess that's the difference in a small-town dealer and one in a big city.
Plus, I was pretty set on buying from that dealership. Their service department is, IMO, the BEST around and they'll drive to College Station (30 miles) to pick it up from me and leave me with a loaner while the work is done. That, and they'll wash it for you every time you bring it in (you NEVER see that around here these days).
Anyway, it's a great truck and I'm pleased with the deal I got for the effort it took. Considering my 2WD Sequoia had a similar interior and stickered for nearly $4K more, I think things worked out pretty well.
Thanks again for the advice.

I've not been on here in a while but it's funny I read this topic tonight. I am actually thinking of going from my 2003 Supercrew to a 2004 Supercrew. What got me was a local dealer had a black 2004 Supercrew that was almost loaded, a demo with 2000 miles on it, 6" Fabtech lift, 18x9 Eagle Alloy 178 wheels, and 325 Nitto tires among some of the extras. It was nice. They were "asking" around $48,000 but said they'd take around $42,000.
My next door neighbors brother is a sale manager at another dealer. I went to him and told him what I wanted AND they would have a truck shop put on all the extras for me and provide me with the 3/36 warranty. Here is the deal, a 2004 Supercrew Lariet, black, with 6 CD, sunroof, heated seats, power rear slider, tow package, power front seats, 6" Fabtech lift, 18x9 wheels, 325 Nitto tires, spray on bedliner, remote start, chrome nerf bars, just to name some of the basics. I can get it, with ZERO miles on it, for just about $41,000. Yes, a lot of cash, but to buy the truck and have it all done myself would be around the same, maybe a little less, but I'd not have my factory warranty.
I go to see them in a few days. I can't wait!
