4.6L Owners (Miles & Problems)
97 with 168,300 I've replaced O2's all around, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, plugs and wires, starter, intake gaskets, thermostat, maybe a couple other small things, nothing too big. Of course there were a few other parts I replaced with better ones, but they were all in "working order", just didn't work to the performance level I wanted them to.
My 2001 Supercrew Lariat 4x2 has a 4.6 with 55,356 on it. So far besides one sensor going bad @ (21,742) I've had trouble free miles Knock On Wood. At times I wished that I'd got a 5.4, but knowing what I do now I'm totally satisfied with what I've got. It has plenty of power to get the job done and has some to spare for the highway travels. Couldn't ask for anything more. Final note 4.6's rock
I have to update my previous post on page 2. Last week I had a bad miss under load. The check engine light came on and I drove it to my fathers house. Luckily he use to be a Ford mechanic and we drove down to the local dealership so a buddy could pull the code. It was on the number 5 cylinder, so we took it back home and took a peek. We happen to have a new coil on plug assymbly and since the spark plug looked good we swapped the coil on plug out with the new one. Then crossing our fingers that it wasn't going to be the injector I fired her up and took her for a spin. Problem solved!!!! Thank goodness I didn't have to take it in since I was out of warranty. But other than this no problems from the truck and we are at just over 42,000 miles.

After one year (this October) driving my 2002 Supercrew XLT, Oxford White, 4.6L, I can say is one thing that dissapoints me:
Compared to most V8 class stock SUVs and Trucks, this is truck is one slow doggin machine. I hate to admit it but its true -Very dissapointed.
Just off the top of my head, I am usually out-accelerated by these stock late model suv's and trucks during my commute to work:
Top Ten Embarrassments
1. Toyota Sequoia
2. Toyota Tundra
3. GMC Envoy
4. Dodge Ram 1500
5. Cadillac Escalade
6. Ford Expedition
7. Cheverolet Avalanche
8. BMW X5
9. Land Rover
10. Lincoln Navigator

take your truck into the dealer, I just had the same trouble resovled.... turned out to be the Idle Air Controller (IAC) took a couple hour to fix and now it runs better than it was new.

4.6 ready to turn 40,000 !
No problems with the engine or the truck. Haven't even changed the brakes yet!
I did a lot of research on the 4.6 and the 5.4 before I bought the 'screw, and I'm glad I bought the 4.6
Yea, if the boats hooked up and the bed is loaded, I gotta wind it up to make hills....but the rest of the time, drivin' around an empty truck...plenty of get up an go.
